2008 Mini Cooper S Won't S after checking fuses
 

Hello, everyone. My mini cooper does not start. It was working just fine until I checked the fuses because my stereo would not turn on. Now the car won't turn on. All I hear is a clicking sound coming from the fuse box.

Have you tested the battery?

Is the car a manual? Did you accidentally kick the clutch safety switch off the pedal? That would cause a no start.

I checked the battery and it was slightly under. And the switch seems to be connected. I currently have my mechanic testing the starter

I doubt you need a starter, they aren't a common failure on these cars. I would say you've got other electrical gremlins going on.

How did they test the battery? And what were the resulting numbers?

It read 11.50 Volts. I also noticed when I was checking the fuses one of the relays was hot.

Fuses don't click, so if you hear "a clicking coming from the fuse box" it's not a fuse doing it. However, it could be a relay, since relays have an internal parts which moves, and often makes an audible click. A click is often a clue that there's enough voltage to trigger the relay but not enough to run the device that the relay is supposed to engage.

If the battery is at 11.5 volts with the car off, that battery is depleted and may not have enough power to start the car. I'd throw a battery charger on it, and after you get it charged try again.

Any time a battery is under 12.0V while sitting, it's low and needs to be charged. While running, you should see around 14 to 14.5V across the battery terminals.
