Cam Timing Tools - All the Same?
You can buy one of these on ebay for ~$65-100 or spend $300 at the MINI aftermarket retailers. Does anyone have experience with any of the cheaper ones? I've definitely seen the quality difference on a pulley puller in the past, so if the ebay specials are literally just not at all possible, lay it on me.
Does anyone have one to loan out? Thanks! -Jonathon |
Since there are really cheap ones out there and really expensive ones, I opted for a middle priced one. Probably all the same stuff with the exception of the OEM factory tools. For a poor shade tree mechanic they are fine.
I bought a set from an eBay retailer with a decent reputation. I wanted to pay by credit card, so the seller directed me to his supplier that drop ships them for him. It turned out to be Baum Tools. I had purchased from them in the past and have been getting their catalogs and mailers for a decade or so. I don't know why I didn't think of them first. |
Some do more than just the N14 motor and are therefore cheaper than the ones that do a few other types. I bought a middle of the road one and it seemed to do the job just fine.
If you can find someone to loan you one then even better. |
