Squeal at idle from time to time

My car produces a squeal from time to time specially when i push it to the limits ..the squeal only appears at idle or at the second i remove my foot from the pedal it happens with the exhaust burbs and pops..but not when am travelling the car is bone stock FJCW 2009

Benibiker 06-29-2013 08:20 PM

My serpentine belt was replaced for that exact problem.

mbwicz 06-29-2013 08:22 PM

Could the 'squeal' be the diverter valve opening up to relieve the boost pressure? It is more of a whistle that decays. At high RPM and high load, the turbo is flowing a bunch of air. When the throttle is closed, the excess flow goes through a diverter valve to bleed off the pressure.

Does this sound like a good description of what you hear? I'm not sure about the noise at idle, though.

No..not the diverter valve at all

Droog 06-30-2013 12:10 PM

I've had my S-belt replaced twice for this.

Velocityvic 06-30-2013 06:59 PM

My water pump squealed at idle.

Did it squeal from time to time or continuously..my car only does it after a spirited drive and am pretty sure it is not the belt

mattkosem 07-07-2013 08:54 AM

Mine only squealed from time to time at idle when the pump was bad. Didn't necessarily seem to coincide with particularly hard driving, but did seem to coincide with fairly long periods of high load (ac on, driving up a hill, etc.). There are some videos of bad pump sounds here that you can use for comparison: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...l-at-idle.html

Mine squealed mainly when it was hot and idling...

titish 07-08-2013 06:23 PM

Does it have any side effect other than squealing...do i really have to change it right now or can i leave it

Velocityvic 07-08-2013 09:08 PM

It's a gamble. There's know way too know if or when it may leak! Mine sqealed within a week of replacement. Dealer did the work under warranty & did it again, under warranty. No issues since.

I changed the pump and changed the belt and the car still squeals..what else

ZIPPY "S" 07-17-2013 07:40 PM

Just so I understand you correctly.. Are you saying it is the belt squealing.. Or your not sure what is squealing? Thanks!!!

Not sure what is squealing...so i changed the water pump and the belt and it still squeals after long drives

Hummm.. well knowing you replaced those items it makes me wonder if it is even a belt squealing.. If it is the belt still squealing..it is possible your belt tensioner has lost some of its tension! thus your belt would slip on occasion.. Does it sound like the squealing is coming from that side of the car? The belt area?

ECSTuning 07-18-2013 06:34 AM

Yep, I would check the tensioner and the friction wheel to determine the squeak , if the belt and pump are ok. If you can pull out the wheel well cover on the passenger side and listen through there you might be able to hear it better, then determine the location.

I will remove the cover today and check for any wear signs

Here is a video of the sound after a drive...it disappeared while opening the hood

mattkosem 07-19-2013 06:12 PM

That sounds quite a bit like what I noticed when my water pump failed. I linked a thread above with a video covering what I was hearing. Here's a direct link to that video:

I changed the pump and the sound is still there

ECSTuning 07-22-2013 08:18 AM

Were you able to get that sound down near the wheel well ? Were you able to remove the cover and crank the engine over to pin point the squeal?

Thanks
