I have a 2009 factory JCW.

Don't know where you're getting this information. The "burble" feature first appeared on 05-06 R53's. It went away with the introduction of the R56 in 07, but was reintroduced in the factory JCW cars in '09. I had an 09 and now have an '11 JCW and they both burble like a percolator. I did not own a '10, but have NEVER heard that they didn't do it too.
It does get louder and more prominent with increased mileage. When I sold my 09 with 34K miles, it burbled and backfired loudly every time you got off the gas. My '11 was quiet as a church mouse when brand new, but now with around 6K miles on it, is much throatier sounding. I expect it will get louder yet with more miles.

...Several people with '10 JCW's plus stuff I've read and discussions I've had.

My 2010 JCW with 11k miles does not pop & burble in any mode at any time. The exhaust sounds quite nice - no complaints.
Also - I have a good friend who also has a 2010 JCW (built a few months earlier than mine); he has 15k miles... no pop & burble.

Bottom line - it has to be in the ECU program to make it happen. It is an intentional 'feature'; not an unavoidable byproduct of the design.

Regardless - great car! Tons of fun (with or w/o P&B) :)

The 2010's don't have the pop and burble it's been proven. If you find somewhere that disproved it then post up a link

Bigprfed22 03-24-2011 03:00 PM

wish mine did, i wonder if the over run feature can be accessed from the ncs expert, although thats more for electronic modules etc.

Maurtis 03-24-2011 03:03 PM

I guess I need to hear it in person to really appreciate it. Just from the videos, I think it would bug me... Like the way the injector noise bothers me, it sounds like something is not right. Coming from my sportbike days, if you had a "pop and burble" it means you had an exhaust leak or had to get your jetting right...

MINI should claim the cold start clatter is a feature ;)

zemina 03-24-2011 03:31 PM

Wife's 2010 S does not have the pop and burble and it would be great if it has one.

I can't speak for the 2010 but this is a pretty accurate accounting of the P&B history. As for my 2011, I can say it is present with/without the sport button engaged, though it does seem a bit more prominent with sport mode engaged. I just passed the 1,000 mile mark a few days ago, so I think I've only begun to experience the aural pleasure of my JCW exhaust.

Cant wait to get a custom 3' magnaflow on my mini then youll really hear that pop and burble

VMCMDN 03-24-2011 10:45 PM

yeah, that would be awesome if the burble can be put back in the 2010's
do you guys know if the JCW tuning kit for the 2010 S comes with the burble?

Agreed. My Triumph did it with offroad pipes on it. But it was an 01 Legend TT not a classic Triumph. I loved it and got thumbs up from the Harley guys all the time. Now it's like having that bike all over again with my 09 JCW Clubbie. My Clubbie does it a bit in non sport but really cracks and snorts in sport mode. I've got over 61K miles on my car.

I just had the JCW kit installed on my 2007 MCS, with updated ECU.

Sounds great, no pops.

I think it might be better this way, the exhaust is pretty loud as is, could really annoy the neighbors if it popped too.

I am pretty sure I know the sound you are all referring to, and my 2010 Clubbie (non-S) has it when I drive in sport mode/steptronic, which is all the time. I love that sound!

callahan00 03-25-2011 12:14 PM

Add some sound deadening foam sheets from Raam Mat under the boot liner, unrder the seats and uner the carpet. It will really lessen the "droney-ness" of the JCW kit exhaust, Mine was pretty load especially on the highway at around 70 and under a load. Now it is very much muffled but you still get the improved exhaust note of the JCW kit. Dyabmat has miniml effect. Go with the Raammat. I used 7 sheets of it. LEt me know if you wnt more info

The '05-'06 S models have the burble programmed into the ECU. With my Invidia exhaust, it is quite obvious. The patterns vary based on how hard I accelerate between shifts, or how hard I accelerate in a gear, then left off for a decel.

Here's a couple of good examples of the Invidia setup while popping the throttle sitting still: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoxcB1yuhHs, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnMVitBFyDQ. He has the aftermarket red brake light in place of the backup light that was on the '02 and '03 models, so I know it's at least an '04.

Here's another Invidia video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxTqx...0E736EB3131EAE. This is definitely an '02 or '03. You should be able to hear the difference between the two. There is noticeably less burble in this one.

Here's one driving in the UK: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyFe4780akA.

I test drove 2011 S and JCW, and ended up getting a 2010 JCW. From my recollection, both JCWs sound about the same, which have noticeably more burble/pop than the 2011 S.

are you sure it had burble and POP.. the burble could be just from the jcw exhaust

peichor 05-08-2011 07:15 PM

My 2011 does the burble and pop when in sport mode. I agree with MTBSCOTT the more miles I get on it the more prominent it gets. I love it! My dealer said this was done for the noise only, but has something to do with the 2nd cat in the exhaust system. Not sure I believe that the cat is part of it but that's what he said.

When my '06 was totaled and I started my build for my '11, I was pleased to hear that they put the burble back in. I read on multiple forums that it was not on the '10. It is a silly thing to love, but love it I do and am glad to have it back. My '11 only has about 1500 miles on it, but I'm finding the burble is becoming more pronounced as we get more mileage under out belts.

I have a 2010 JCW R57 and it does snap crackle pop.

Fml. That's what I get for using search and not checking the date.

It's been a long Thursday and I really need it to be Friday.
