Windows won't stay up
Hey all, I have a 2008 Mini Cooper S and yesterday everytime I parked it and got out the windows roll down and the sun roofs pop up. When I took it to the dealer they acted like they had never heard of this issue but I googled the problem today and see that there is a problem which I have not seen a solution posted that resolved the problem. Has anyone here had this problem and if so was the dealer able to fix? What was the issue with your Mini may help me get mine fixed.
Thanks. |
It sounds like it may be a problem in your remote access key sending a signal to open the windows and the roof (I like that feature in the summer, btw). Leave your primary key at home and try using your spare key. If problem disappears, you need a new key.

Thanks for the reply. I thought the same thing so I traded keys with my wife at lunch yesterday and got the same results. I guess I'm asking the question here because I have 0 faith in the service department at the dealership. I have one the cars that has the awful engine rattle on cold startup, sometimes it sounds like its going to blowup. They always told me before that it was a pump on the front of the motor and yesterday he said it was the rocker arms:o. Now if its the rocker arms that means there is no oils pressure there and thats why they are rattling. I'm thinking I made a big mistake buying a Mini. |

We're ordering a new JCW for my wife in a few days and I fully expect to go through a similar sorting out process with that car. |
With both the windows and the sunroof opening, I agree it is prolly the fob. I carry my fob in my back pocket. My office window faced the parking lot and I have opened the windows a coupe of times.
Has yours stopped? |
Try keeping your keys cleared of anything near them. It might be the way they're sitting in your pocket that's holding the unlock button down.

several people have had this problem and it turned out to be the "footwell module".

A footwell module and diffrent door switch and or actuator are mentioned in this thread:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...their-own.html yep, i'd bet that before both keys being bad. |
Well my Mini is home and it had a bad actuator. I did talk to a different service advisor and he said the engine rattle was the valve trane. I reallly don't like that answer.

No they didn't say anything about a fix.

well the service advisor I have there normally says the rattle is normal for that engine. I don't believe that at all. I am going to pursue this just not real sure how to go about it at this point. Any advice would be great.

Do You Have Cold Start Rattling (Knocking)?

mdun6 - yes, that seems to be "normal" for a large number of people if it's the start up rattle that goes away in a few minutes.

So if you say its normal, would you be happy with that answer? If they tell me that its the rocker arms making that noise do you understand the damage that is being done to the rockers, valves and cam shaft? If it is normal why doesn't every Mini have the same issue? I have made an appointment with the service department to take it in next Thursday. The service advisor I spoke with admitted that the engine should not make the rattle noise and damage is being done. |
