R56 AT Fuel Economy
While I had the MY R56 with a MT I was getting a minimum of 31.5 mpg around town and about 36 mpg on the highway. That was for the entire time I had it up to the 3000 mile mark where Mini took it back.
The new car has the AT (which I like much better, for convenience sake) and has been dissappointing at the gas pump. Fill-ups have been producing a declining mpg figure consistantly since new. 28.5, 27.5, 26.5, and today 25.5 mpg. I haven't been beating on the car (yet) and was expecting at least 30 mpg under light-traffic commuting... The trip computer is optimistic between 1/2 and 2 mpg, btw. What are other AT drivers getting? I'm at about 1400 ft above sea level and using top shelf 93 octane fuels (QT, Shell, Chevron). The car has a little less than 1000 miles on it. |
Around 28 mpg over 3000 miles.
Though half my miles are technically on the highway, even those are short bursts, so I guess my driving all counts as pretty heavy city driving. That's an MC, you're MCS arnbut? Hopefully your decline is some odd coincidence! |
Yes; I have an S.
It's getting the same mpg's as our R53-S right now... |
Checking your tire pressures would be my first idea. Could have been low from the get go. Temperature and AC use effects mileage also so that could factor in.
|
wow.
My R53 w/ MT gets 31-33 highway, and I've pushed it up to 35+ when forced to go slower behind a tractor-trailer crossing PA on 80... |

Tire pressures are checked cold with religious zeal --- 33psi all around on the 16" runflats. It's been 100 degrees around here lately so the A/C is on most of the time.
I knew that I'd be trading a few mpgs going to the AT but I didn't think it would be more than 10%... |
Automatics consume more gas then manual transmission and cause more brake pad wear. This is nothing new. Your fuel economy number with MCSa seen resonable when commared to MCS 6-speed.
|
R56 MCa , 32-34 mpg mixed driving with 93 oct and AC on.
|
If I do a lot of stop and go traffic with temp's in the +95F range, mpg's suffer greatly.
I have been averaging 26.6 mpg around city streets, 29 mpg with light freeway travel. What I have started doing is picking my shift points myself, we'll see what the next fill up reflects... I can go just as far as my previous 4Runner, not to shaby! |
27.5 mcsA driven agressively air on--mix of city and highway.
|
I get about 27 mpg on mixed driving.
|
26-28 mostly around town. Do a long freeway jaunt and can easily get 32+. The is an '07 MCSa
|
Just got an '07 MCa, picked it up in Denver, and drove it home over the weekend. Trip was a little over 1,100 miles. The OBC reflected 38.2 mpg, while my manual calculation was 36.3 mpg. I was at 65-75 mph most of the way, and estimate the AC was used at least half the time.
|
MC manual routinely get 37-38 in mixed driving around town. Fill up this weekend was 39.8 with about 200 miles of interstate travel. All by fill up, OBC 1-2 mpg optimistic.
|
I'll have to agree with the recent heat points. I have noticed a decline in my MCS from about 32mpg mixed driving to around 29mpg or so. It's been pretty consistently hot here recently (>95F). Light A/C use (2 notches on). Not too aggressive. Have filled the tank up again for another calc. Will let you know.
|
I suppose I do employ the turbo a little too often...
Nothing seems to be wrong with it; I'm going to motor today. I'm finally over the break-in mileage (a very long 2 weeks) and I might just thrash it a little. |
With only 1500 miles on the car so far, I am getting 28-30 in mixed highway (lots of stop and go traffic) and city. I did one short trip of 120 miles with all highway and got 37 miles per gallon.
|
I am getting about 27mpg mostly freeway but with LA traffic and MAX AC most of the time.
|
MCa: at 3500mi on the clock, i'm getting about 28 - 29mpg consistently as a stop-and-go commuter. highway trips have seen 38 - 40mpg.
|
32.5 mpg yesterday with mixed real-world non-commuting driving. This included some very naughty behavior in the mountains on the ultra-twisties and some mundane 4-lanes and a little interstate.
Looks like the R56-S just doesn't like stop-n-go commuting traffic and will punish me with poor fuel economy when I force it to do that duty. |
Arnbut , since you have had both mabey you could start a post comparing manual and automatics ,is it as fun , is it as fast etc...I test drove an automatic non S it seemed a little weak but I did not use the sport button and I did not push it to hard .
|
my 07 s auto trans gets 31.5 in mainly suburban traffic with ac on most of the time.
|
I just got 36.3 MPG on a 275 mile trip in my MCSa a couple of day ago (it was 37.3 there and came back down on my way home). When I started, I had about 900 miles on her. She has been steadily improving her mileage as she gets more miles on her. I have been getting about 27 MPG in the city so far.
I do keep the auto AC on all of the time. |
