What's with the "cute" comments...

Everyone that I have talked to (mostly women) always come back with the comment, that's a "cute" car.

Just yesterday, I was on the phone with the toll road office swapping my EZ tags and adding the MCS to my account. The lady askes me, what's a "MINI" so I go and proudly explain. She comes back, "yeah, from the Italin job; they are so cute"...

I say to myself, again? :eek2:

I guess I never saw the MNI as a 'cute" car....do you get similar comments?

In Canada, we call those people "Idiots".

buzzsaw Jul 25, 2007 06:50 AM

Yup--all time:lol:

Yeppers - most common word I've heard about the MINI is "cute". Something you'll have to get used to..

Donna:cool:

It is a curse. Either that one, or, that "Not bad looking for an economy car".
Take 'em for a ride. The MINI can explain it.

Trinity07 Jul 25, 2007 08:00 AM

I get the cute thing sometimes, I guess the DS/B deflects some of it. Although I dont like it, its better than being called ugly (which Ive heard too).

I guess that's the price you must pay for living in Texas, where EVERYTHING is big...but the MINI.

Arnbut Jul 25, 2007 08:04 AM

I guy at work walked up this morning and said, "cute car; gunna turbo it?" (chuckle chuckle).
Then I read him the credential list and he said, "dern, I didn't know they were fast..."

MINIclo Jul 25, 2007 08:06 AM

 Better get used to the "cute" comments, andyde! We've been getting them, (and discussing them), since 2002, and I'm sure the original Classic Minis have gotten them since 1959!:nod::lol:

Scoobywrx Jul 25, 2007 08:08 AM

My friend gets chased after after driving his 1980 mini..Girls dig it.. haha

Greatbear Jul 25, 2007 08:09 AM

 so true

PaulCIssa Jul 25, 2007 08:22 AM

It comes with the real-estate. Get used to it. I went for stripes after the first "cute" comment. At least it has a bit of "English" to it now.

a4autocrossr Jul 25, 2007 08:25 AM

yesterday i had to call the college i go to to have my parking permit updated and when i told the lady i had a mini she says "oh, those are cute!"....lol

I guess is more common than I thought....:sly:

andyde Jul 25, 2007 08:33 AM

It's just so weird, funny how people perceive it as "cute".
That tells me that they really don't know the car.

I bought this car because it was different and handles absolutely better than anything I have ever owned before.
Now the smart car coming out next year, I can't speak for it....

My MCS is a wolf in sheep's clothing, and I love that!

Arnbut Jul 25, 2007 08:37 AM

It is cute...

Robin Casady Jul 25, 2007 08:38 AM

Almost all women who have commented on my MCS have called it cute. If the police see it that way, I'm fine with that.

I've always kind of liked the idea of a stealth hot rod. In high school (in a previous century) the talk was of dropping a V8 in the back of a VW bug or small Fiat and trying to make it look as stock as possible (except for the rear wheels, of course) then blowing the doors of GTOs.

"Cute" is a term of endearment. At least when I use it, it doesn't imply weak at all. I personally find "attractive" men "cute" and by no means does that mean he's not masculine (unless, of course I'm in SF and then its a crap shoot).

Take it as a complement from women... from guys I would probably want to hit them.

Hey, I resemble that remark... '68 GTO was my first car  though my fun isn't raw hp, its taking turns fast and the GTO sucked big time in that regard (and sucked fuel like nobody's business).

Take 'em for a ride. The MINI can explain it.

It's kind of expensive for an economy car.

Absolutely! Nothing wrong with being cute!

A colleague said he had seen Minis and thought they were cute, but could they keep up on the interstates?

I took him for a ride

darmog Jul 25, 2007 09:20 AM

One of the reasons I ordered a MINI was because it was cute...brutes of a machine like the Mustang and Charger just exude too much testosterone for me.

MIN 18 Jul 25, 2007 09:21 AM

I always thought of my MINI as a cool cute car hehe

That's what I always say, if a girl call me cute I love it!

DesignIt Jul 25, 2007 09:24 AM

The best comeback to the "cute" comment I ever heard was; "So's a snub nose 38."
