On my 2008 R55 Clubman I am getting ready for new Tires. Since this speedbuggy is almost 12 years old, I was wondering if as a precaution should I purchase Valve Stems for TireBarn to install when the new tires are installed? There are no indications of any issues except age.
What is your opinion ???

Also maybe someone can recommend a part number? (I have TPMS and 16" StarBlaster wheels)

Pre TMPS when I used to watch the mechanics that worked at a tire store my Dad managed for new tires the mechanic would use some tool to just pull the tire stem out of the wheel. This let the tire inflate right now then he removed the old tire, fitted a new stem, fitted the new tire, then balanced wheel/tire and that was that.

In your car's case unless there is something very different or special/unique/custom with the tire stems the place that replaces the tires should use new valve stems. It would be false economy to try to nurse the old stems any more time or miles. There should be no reason to buy the stems before hand unless you want again something special/unique/custom tire stems used.

So you are saying to just replace the Valve Core's? (The small valve device inside the stem)

2008 will have TPMS sensors - the change over happened in 2007 model year (US)

so you have stems which are part of the TPMS sensor, not the simple rubber stem of old.

A TPMS service kit includes a collar, seal, valve core, and more to maintain your tire pressure sensors.


note that TPMS sensors also have a battery which often is NOT replaceable but does eventually wear out .... usually requiring the sensor be replaced.
