Mmmmm, honestly haven't noticed this. But then again, it hasn't rained that much in the last 2 months since I got it...

miniclubman May 2, 2008 05:57 AM

Yes, you'll see water right up to the bottom door seal. There used to be an outer door sweep on the bottom of the driver's door, but MINI deleted that part. If you look at the bottom of the driver door you'll see a series of holes where the door sweep would have been.

hfs3 May 2, 2008 06:12 AM

So if there are holes for them, then theoretically it should be possible to buy the parts and install them?

x2 I would really like that. were they on the 07 R56 or something so we could just buy them at the dealership?

lurch70 May 2, 2008 07:34 AM

can someone post a visual of this issue ... not following what exactly is happening with the water accumulation.

JP4 May 2, 2008 07:56 AM

Water-Door Jam's

Hey Lurch70
Mainly the water after driving in the rain is all inside the Door sill's
So its soaked on the bottom and the vertical hinge side.
Its not making inside the drivers area or the passenger side Good Thing.

Yes, you can get the part, as you already have one on the passenger door! The part would be the same for the driver's dor. And, no, I don't have an answer for your next question, "why would MINI put a bottom door sweep on one side of the car only? It may be that, in the U.K., it only rains on the right side of the car.

jonabad May 2, 2008 10:38 AM

I love these threads that make me think: "Wait, there's something asymmetrical and funky about my car? I must investigate!" :)

But of course! Does anyone have the part# for this item?

Take a look here:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...78&hg=41&fg=40

and see if this is the correct part number #5 or 51767146093

I noticed that the first time i washed the car - I simply assumed that the guy doing the drivers side install was at a break when the car came down the line or something - I simply assumed that I would have the service techs install one when it is in for service. But intentionally deleting it?? I don't get it. Like you said it is on the other doors, it's on my R53 doors that way and even on the BMW's - not sure why it would intentionally not be installed. Did you get that confirmed from MINI?

If that really is the case, I'm going to be certain to have it installed before I pick the car up. It just doesn't make sense for it to not be there...

Mantid May 2, 2008 10:47 PM

There is an extensive thread on this issue, with pictures as I recall, in the R56 forum at https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=113697 .

Otra May 3, 2008 04:57 AM

lurch, report back on this to me  after you take delivery and see what you think. Sometimes I feel reading the different MINI boards drives me crazy and I'd rather be clueless and content.

Just received the door seal from Pelican. Took a few seconds to install. Now it looks like it should.

Otra May 14, 2008 04:47 PM

Pelican?

We had to stop by the dealer yesterday to have some missing chrome speaker trim installed (still nothing on the rear cup holders) so we asked about the missing driver's side door sweep. They knew nothing about it, checked the others on the lot and said they do not come with it, but they would find out from MINI and order it for us, if possible. Got a call today saying it's ordered and will be installed (free of charge) next week when it comes in. They have also decided to order and keep plenty on hand as customers ask for them. Seems silly that it would be on one side of the car and not the other, especially since the holes are already there. My only concern is whether or not it will make the door a bit harder to close as it is on the passenger-side. You'd think MINI would have clear-cut answers for these kinds of questions. Guess we'll see; at least it's an easy install/removal, if necessary.

harold47 May 15, 2008 05:01 PM

that's great that your dealer will take care of it for you.

mine didn't. the answer I got was that if it's not there I don'y need it and that the engineers at MINI get paid plenty to figure those things out.

needless to say i wasn't happy with that answer.

Pelican Auto Parts is where I ordered the strip from:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/euro/cgi...r&Input_Make=Y

don't notice any difference in difficulty closing the door.

Yes, our dealer has been great about taking care of things. I'm sure they realize the importance of building a long term relationship. I don't blame you for being unhappy with that kind of attitude from your dealer.

Glad to know you don't notice any increased difficulty closing the door.

Otra May 15, 2008 08:02 PM

harold47, when I try to find a Clubman door seal there I can't seem to do it. Can you give us the exact part # please - for those of us who won't be able to get them from our dealers? I haven't asked mine yet, but plan to inquire soon.

Thanks for your help.
