We enthusiasts assume we are the majority of MINI owners. Unfortunately, we are not. Most buy the MINI because it is "cute", "in", "practical", or any other fill in your own blank. It is safe to assume MINIUSA had a large amount of data from JD indicating the dislike of the stiff ride. Since we communicate so much over this forum, it just feels like we represent the majority.
With that said, MINIUSA did something real STUPID! They had an easy solution which BMW has implemented for years. They softened Bimmers for the American market, but offer stiff shocks in the sports packages and performance versions (M's.) How could they have missed this obvious solution?
Starting with the 2004 model (give those on order a chance to get the car they ordered) put the softer shocks in the Cooper. Include the stiffer shocks as part of the sports package. Include the stiffer shocks as standard on the S. A simple solution that would make the majority happy and allow us enthusiasts to remain happy as well.

Nope, this would not have made me happy when ordering my car. I don't want a spoiler. I don't want DSC. I don't want 16" wheels (well, maybe that wouldn't be so bad...). The point is, this should be an OPTION. Add a new "Buick package" that has the softer shocks, a six-way power-adjustable la-z-boy driver's seat, and a regular old automatic transmission with the steering column lever. Don't make everyone suffer because some people want the looks of the MINI without the capabilities.

Chris,
I hear you and agree with you. All I am saying is that for everyone one of us, there are probably 10 that said they did not like the rough ride. Yes, you would have been stuck with getting DSC, but could still have a choice. Most of us do not fear doing mods anyway, so we could have the shocks only put on if they were still offered.

I think they should bring over the MINI One and give that car the softer suspension and leave the Cooper and Cooper S alone!

We already have at least two other threads on this. Let's try to keep the discussion focused there.
