Don't do's in a MINI....what do you say?

I thought I saw a good start on a list of don't do's in a MINI, but I can't find it. And yes, I've done the whole search routine. So, it was suggested I start a new thread on the subject and then someone will chime in that "we done that already" and post the link.

So, do we start anew? Or can we post the original list and add to it?

Don't dos????

Do NOT try to take on an Elise in the Twisties ... You WILL lose

Do NOT try to out accelerate a 911 ... You WILL lose

Do NOT try to fit a King Size mattress inside .... It WILL NOT fit

Do NOT try to microwave a pizza AND grille a hotdog in the backseat simulteansly. One or the other will overcook

Do not do any of the following in a MINI:

Attack a Ford Explorer.
Drive up on a curb.
Drive in a low driveway at the wrong angle and scrape EVERYTHING...
Attack trees.

and most of all...

FORGET to take your MINI to MINIs on the Dragon so she can be reunited with her friends and family

Yeah DONT drive up on a curb, or get too close to one and turn because you will scratch your rim..........i learned the hard way, its hardly noticeable but it still bugs me.

DONT park too inside a parking spot because you will get some OLD ladies in a Buick thinking that half empty spot is actually a full parking spot

  • Do NOT deny that its a gay/chick/clown car ... let others perceptions stay their perceptions
  • Do NOT carry a basketfull of puppies in the passenger seat. One will eventually get out and get under the brake pedal:eek:
  • Do NOT even think about that with kittens ... they scratch:eek2:
  • Do NOT drive behind any 18 wheelers ... you WILL regret it
  • Do NOT drive beside any 18 wheelers ... when they get a blow-out ... the scattered tire WILL win.
  • Do NOT try to outdodge a Deer at 5 AM. Deers always win.

Do not carry 8' 2X4s sticking out of the sunroof.

Trust me on this, they catch more wind than you think.

Here are some passenger "Don't do's":

Don't mess with the toggle switches.
Don't scream as we enter the S curve on Scwartz Road.
Don't stick your finger on speedo glass and say "What's that for?".
Don't pull on the inside door latch just once. Do it twice.
Don't complain that the whine is too loud. (It's supposed to be loud!)
Don't complain that it rides stiff. (It's supposed to be stiff.)
Don't bring anything but water into the cockpit.

Here's some do's.

Do smile from ear to ear.
Do scream as we enter the S curves on Scwartz Road. (Only at 45 or above.) (Potential Lock, I can feel it in my bones)
Do ask all kinds of questions about the car.
Do wish you had one.

My MINI real life experience lessons (after only 16 days):

1. If, when backing up, the obstruction warning tone goes off, don't ignore it. Stop immediately.

2. When motoring with the top down and passengers in the rear seats, do not spray windshield washer fluid.

3. Do not watch your wife back the MINI down the driveway for the first time. It will only make things worse.

Maybe it should be Don't Let the HUSBAND Drive:thumbsup:

OmToast Apr 1, 2006 10:50 AM

Don't trust that your passengers will remember to pull twice on the door latch. DO unlock via toggle.

DO double park to avoid that problem. :)

ProfessorDave Apr 1, 2006 11:33 AM

The Do's:
DO wave to other MINI drivers
DO smile at the less fortunate (i.e., owners of other cars) when they gawk and point
DO blip the gass when downshifting, even when no one else is around to hear it
DO try to talk about non-MINI things, at least for a few minutes, at parties (those "other" drivers just don't get it!)
DO race the mustang 5.0 through the really, really twisty road. You WILL win!

The Don'ts:
DON'T leave the moonroof tilted open in the rain
DON'T take the MINI on the golf course. Greenskeepers will not be convinced that it is really an elaborate golf cart
DON'T mount tires with directional tread backwards
To prevent the above, DON'T mount tires when taking cold medicine

Bigcoyote Apr 1, 2006 01:59 PM

Hey there,

My don't for today:

Don't take the wife on Arizona Hwy 88 after a big breakfast:eek2:

Thank God for empty grocery bags:razz:

Bullfrog Apr 1, 2006 02:17 PM

My wife bought her own... I'm an only child.

DON'T forget that your favorite twisties develop major bumps in the winter! (the top of my head still hurts)

Dont tell me I'm going to fast. the speedo goes to 150 for a reason:lol:

dont bring in a drink if that middle cup holder is filled...sorry, just one allowed at a time.

dont rush me into a steep driveway! these things take time...

gokartride Apr 2, 2006 10:03 AM

- don't let passengers close the doors by pushing on the glass.:sly:

- remove all jewelry anywhere near silver door trim:cry:

- don't close the boot or bonnet by pushing on the paintwork:eek2:

- do take any necessary detours to avoid rock haulers:mad:

- do wave (or similar) at other MINIs. It's good for you.

- do get the right washing detailing supplies. Your MINI will thanks you.

- do not.....ever......refer to a Cooper as a "base" MINI.

Don't Do What Donny Don't Does...

Super Coop Apr 3, 2006 09:41 AM

Do more maintainance than the manual calls for.

Do keep every receipt, even for gas, and log it in an Excel spreadsheet.

Don't even think about running it through a carwash.

Don't let it be valet parked.

geowit Apr 3, 2006 10:48 AM

My passenger on the Tour du Nord said:

DON'T drive 70MPH in a whiteout:eek2:

Actually, I found a touchless carwash that does a great job and doesn't touch my baby.
