I, too, bought a MINI not because it was fast, or cute, or stylish. No, I bought one simply because it was a Mini/MINI. I didn't know at the time what people might think...just the opportunity to motor in a re-incarnated Mini (safe and w/ AC!) was more than I could resist. Turn out it's pretty quick...but that really wouldn't have mattered.

Ok, so I'm an old geezer and have no clue what "Hollister" or "A&F" is referring to. Anyone want to help me out here?

Of course not...but regardless of how you feel about the size it's still the real deal.

are clothing brands. A&F is Abacrombie and Fitch...

Here's a funny story... My wife and I were in North Carolina (she has friends there) and one of her friends girlfriend was wearing a "Hollister" shirt. We, being from CA, thought this was interesting. Turns out that Hollister uses the CA tie in to market "hip surfer" stuff... But I guess it relies on a total ignorance of geography, as Hollister is in the central valley, and started as a cow-poke farming community!

Isn't marketing wonderful.....

Yep...And I have to say, Abercrombie/Hollister (same company) has some of the most brilliant marketing I've ever seen.

if they're going to convince most of the country that Hollister is a surfing town! Imagin the surprise when the youngsters actually go there, and find a bunch of pick-ups!

Hollister Ranch is a surfing spot! Here's the scoopage from Wikipedia:

Hollister Co. was not named after the city in California nor does it have anything to do with the collection company JM Hollister Inc. that was established in 1963 in Fresno, California - it is named after Hollister Ranch, a prime (albeit privately owned) surfing spot located near Santa Barbara, California (Hollister, California is not a coastal town and has no connection with the company).

MY response would be, "Hey it may attract "chicks"; that doesn't mean I have to be one to drive the MINI."
OR - "I drive a MINI. What are you overcompensating for?"
That will likely shut them up.
Also, if you have an S, just step on the gas. :-)

I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm, but at the same time I'm careful not to be
obnoxious about it. I don't expect others to understand if they don't own one themselves. When someone takes me up on an offer to go for a spin they get an inkling of what it's all about and that's about as far as it can go toward understanding the experience.....short of ordering, tracking, anticipating getting behind the wheel and having it all to yourself.

Back on the Hollister tangent... I work at one now... and when all the kids ask me where I am from (Sacramentoish, CA) they all ask me how cool Hollister, CA is.... It feels mean to crush their hopes and dreams when I say that Hollister CA is not all that great.... Glad to finally know where the name originated! :)

With that philosophy, I wouldn't get much of a chance to talk at all, now would I?

Two weeks ago I was working with a guy from Philly who came down to Atl to call on customers with me...... We were in the Xterra and i said tomorrow we'll take the Mini.... he said "I just don't get the whole Mini thing:roll: ." The next day he got into the car and within 2 minutes he said "wow, now I get it." Of course I "treated" him to a "plateful" of Mini..... can't have people with the wrong impression now can we:wink::grin:

Hey Spidy...good idea:) My experience usually involves me driving alone minding my own business and come across the typical "my penis is bigger than yours" hillbillies in a Ram Hemi who then starts to dog me in traffic. How many threads have we seen posted about people like these in SUVs who get upset when a Mini passes them? I ususally put up with it for as long as the traffic is constipated. But...when I find the opening...let's just say, never get in a street fight with the "short little guy"
