These Mini abbreviations are making my head hurt

I'm new to the Mini game, just ordered my MCS this week. For the past 2 weeks I've been racking my brain trying to understand just what the hell you all are talking about! MA's, signatures that read CR/W, IB/B, etc, it's all confusing!

What happened to the good ole method of writing out what you mean?

Maybe it's just that I'm a newbie, but these terms seem silly.
"Motoring Advisor"?
"Let's go motoring"?

I love the car, but you guys are weird! I'm not sure if I can get used to using all these abbreviations and terminology. Hopefully it's an Internet thing, and doesn't filter into the actual get-togethers. I can't ever bring myself to say "Let's go Motoring!"

mcowger 12-09-2004 01:52 PM

MA is motoring advisor. the others you mentioned are color designations:

HB/B: Hyper Blue (Body)/Black (Roof)

Is there interest in creating a glossary? I'd be happy to spearhead such a project.

C4 12-09-2004 01:53 PM

It is an internet thing my friend. I also had a hard time in the beginning but then you even start using the abbriviations in real life:eek2:

Yes we all are a weird bunch!

Welcome to the Enterprise, ensign!

kenchan 12-09-2004 02:28 PM

stylin99 - But yet your name is not written out completely.

You'll never be able to work for General Motors then, hehehe.

dominicminicoopers 12-09-2004 02:29 PM

Hate to burst your bubble, abbreviations and acronyms are used all the time in the world outside the internet...and people even used them prior to the Internet being created! So clearly it aint an internet thang.

Take, IBM people say Eye Bee Emm rather than their whole name.

How about BC as in 1000 BC or AD as in 1923 AD?

Don't tell the Mrs. over on Mayburry St. in small town CA, USA that the ERA movement set in many years ago. She doesn't just now need to burn her bra (brassiere sp?) in protest.

How about Jeep? Yep, that word comes from General Purpose or GP (pronounced "Jeep") for short. During WWI and WWII many GIs would refer to multipurpose or general purpose vehicles as GPs, some even became MIAs while driving one. Some became POWs for not paying enough attention while eating their MREs. But whatever you do, don't tell your CO you're going AWOL.

You see, this list could go on and on and on and on

BTW, have yourself a merry x-mas!

The only one you need to know is CR/CR (Chili Red as opposed to Velvet Red)

Otherwise:
PW - Pepper White
IB - Indi Blue (RIP)
HB - Hyper Blue
DS - Dark Silver
PS - Pure Silver
AB - Astro Black
PH - Purple Haze (BEP, Black Eye Purple outside of US)
LY - Liquid Yellow
SG - Silk Green (rare)
LG - Liquid Gold (rare)
B - Black
BRG - British Racing Green
/W - white roof, mirrors
/B - black roof, mirrors
MFSW - Multi Function Steering Wheel
etc.
etc.

Welcome to NAM. I'm sure you're familiar with 5.0 EFI and all the other Mustang vocabulary, you'll catch on soon.

I have a restomod 65. The Mini doesn't have anywhere near the power, but it's a handling machine. I was out at a nor-cal shelby event, and most people gained a new respect for the Mini! You'll love it, but no more donuts at intersections:lol:

Welcome my friend! You will learn it all soon enough. Another one or couple to add to the list is:

MC - MINI Cooper
MCS - MINI Cooper "S"
MCSC - MINI Cooper "S" Convertible:grin:

Chow!

Now, when you have links set to photos that illustrate each & every item you'll be all done!:thumbsup:
Motor on.

There is no such color as "Liquid Gold". The correct name is "Solid Gold", which created a problem when describing the color in the normal 2 letter
abbreviation since "SG" has always referred to "Silk Green". Not sure if that
was ever resolved.

Pebblecrusher 12-10-2004 04:50 AM

FYI, you'll need to know these abbreviations. Test on Monday.

Ya know, actually... This phrase has been hyped from the beginning by MINIUSA, and it's not used much... at least not on NAM... we are much too creative to be spoon fed cute phrases!

Godspeed.

Nicholasp27 12-10-2004 06:32 AM

i noticed u put "408 rwhp / 403 rwtq" in your signature...why use those abbreviations?

Nicholasp27 12-10-2004 06:46 AM

here's a link to help ya out

I guess I have some homework to study. Thanks to those that listed what the abbreviations are. That will help me tremendously to refer back to this thread (and hopefully for other newbies).

gokartride 12-10-2004 07:37 AM

You think our acronyms are confusing? Imagine seeing a MINI described as this: MCS03BRG/W+++d=bN~lYw+*Ar!ciKB+a-sCsPcMACP-pB+H-mp-s+++a++S+g++MMm+o+e+++p++++Pt++T+I++i++C++m+++M+Ss+!W+wB++@!

One of our more gifted local owners came up with this comprehensive code for describing our highly individualized MINIs in more detail than one could imagine!:eek2: It never caught on.

Find the code at the same link you'd fnd the acronym list!

:eek2: My bad. Fortunately there aren't enough Silk Green and Solid Gold NAMers to cause any confusion.
I suck. I promise not to use any TLAs for the rest of the day.

Godspeed.

As I settle into the path that strings out in front of me,and my will is met with a grounded reponse from the machine that feels the surface it travels, together the bio and tech become one as they MOTOR :lol::thumbsup:

Last week I was chatting with a co-worker who turned out to be a fellow MINI owner. But not a miniac, apparently.

When I asked if he had an "MC" or and "MSC", all I got was a blank stare!

OctaneGuy 01-01-2005 10:17 PM

It could have been worse, he could have said, "Oh You have a MINI Coop also??"

Welcome, stylin99!

Also, MCC = MINI Cooper Convertible (non-S)

And yeah....I DO use the term "motoring" quite often! It's so MINI!

Clover

Stylin99, welcome to NAM. As a former Mustang owner (86 GT, 89 LX 5.0, and 2000 GT Convertible) I can say you will enjoy these cars for how different they are from the Mustang. They are not straight line cars, but their handling is light years above the Stang. I hope you are able to keep the Ford's so you can have the best of both worlds. Sometimes I miss the brute force power the Mustang was capable of.
