Hard shifting problems...
'02 R50 with 102k miles.
In the last 10 days I've put about 400 mountain miles on my Mini - two round trips to Boy Scout Camp. Lots of climbing, dropping, up & down shifting. Since then, here is what I've noticed: A quick grind when dropping into reverse and a stiffness when shifting - about the last 1" of throw or so. I've had this car about 17 months. I have no idea when any transmission work may have been done. Any ideas? |
Check the Clutch Slave and Master for any leaks.

Thanks for the tip. No drips on the driveway though - should there be if one is leaking?

Mine was humid, but once I removed the rubber boot oil leaked everywhere. But if yours is completely dry I would look elsewhere. Try to put your car in first gear and hold the clutch for a minute or two and rev it after (You must be on a completely flat surface) If your car goes forward a bit than your clutch is not disengaging properly and you have probably have a problem with your Slave or Master.
Other than that it could be your pressure plate that is starting to go but I would look at the easier stuff before getting there. |
Thanks, I'll try that. I did notice that when the car is not turned on, the shifting is smooth and normal. The stickiness only occurs when it is on and driving.
