I have a very high mileage MCS, over 38,000 miles :grin: What kind of mileage do you people have on your MINI's?

I wouldn't consider 38.000 miles, "very high mileage". I've only got 1,500 miles on my MC, but I've only had it a couple of months. Just sold a van with 202,000 miles. Still own a pickup with 170,000. To me, very high starts at about 150,000. Hope my MINI will hang in there for at least 100,000+ miles with no major problems.

100,000 miles should be no trouble for the MINI. High mileage is a relative term and sometimes based on having driven more miles than 15,000 per year of ownership. I would say 150,000 miles regardless of age of the car is high mileage. By the way in my area no new car dealership wants to touch any used car with 100,000 miles or more. They all get shuffled off to the used car lot like they have the plague. :eek: :sad:

My MCS only has 11K miles, but I plan on keeping it well past 100K. I cant see why anyone would want to get rid of one barring any major problems. I also have a 1952 Dodge M-37 (power wagon) with the original inline 6 and just shy of 55K original miles over the last 51 years :smile:

I just turned 21,000 on the ole clock, still getting broken in as far as I am concerned. If I change cars, it is going to be only for the color, I love the MCS in Pepper White. I would love to find one with a red leather interior and I would go for it. However MINI/BMW decided not to make that an option so I will continue to drive my little DS/W MCS for years to come.

Cool sounding Dodge. I plan to hold on to my Mini until it is also a classic old car. More like and old MGB etc. though. Wow, 38,000 miles as high? That comfirms that you are not a used car dealer, SuperMINI03. They would probably just describe it as broken in.

I can not yet compete for total milage....however, I would guess that the 8,200 miles I have on my MINI that is 50 days old today gets me some kind of award :grin: !!

Actually it would be a shame to get rid of the MINI after 38k miles. If you're going to keep a car no more than 30k miles, why not consider leasing?

38k is nothing! I've got 26k at 10 months--I'll roll 38k inside of 2 years of ownership. Why get rid of it so quickly???

Even a poorly made car these days can usually go 100,000mi without major internal engine and transmission failures. If you take good care of your mini (ok maybe change the oil ever 7,500mi, instead of 15,000mi) and don't rag on it. You should be able to get 100,000 MI without much drama. Now 150,000, that will be interesting to see. But I believe most cars (x specially front-wheel drive) post 100,000mi are getting worn down...

But I have friends with mid 1990's 3 series with 150,000 to 180,000mi, and the engines/transmissions are still solid :smile: rwd I-6, tho, which helps...

Speaking about milage I now have 71,500 miles on my hot S. And baby this thing is flying. I have never owned a car that I have enjoyed more.

I've done 8K in three and a half months.

38K is low mileage. If the 38K car was mine I might test the used car market. If prices are holding up well where you live, the amount you'd have to pay to buy up to a new MINI may be pretty low. Once a few more years roll around and the used MINI car market is more plentiful, you may have wished you traded in sooner.

Just a thought..

p.s. I am not one of those who believe that a car like this will sell for MSRP or above, But what if you sell for $5k below what you paid, and are then able to replace it with a new one with the options you want?

Cars last a long time these days. I know a few people with small 4 cylinder cars who have gotten 250,000 miles with no major work on engine or transmission, but the key they say is to not rev the car over 3 or 4 thousand RPMs. Of course with the MINI no one wants to baby it like that! These cars were a Nissan with stick shift, and Honda Civic automatic. I also know of a BMW 3 series that got almost 300,000 miles. Someone once told me when their small 4 cylinder car hit 175,000 miles, they got it overhauled at the dealer, and they would go another 175,000 miles. I for one plan on keeping my MINI for many, many years, and I want to drive it enthusiastically. So, I am not worried about engine mileage (i.e., wear and tear on the engine), as I will just fix it when needed. What worries me more is all the other things that come with age, such as cracking plastic, etc. Hopefully, we can get replacement stuff for this car, because it is an instant classic. I think we will be able to.

zfxr, I suspect I'm showcasing my ignorance here, but why do you say that RWD cars have a better chance than FWD cars of lasting for upwards of 150k?

Though we’ve never personally met, what I’d like to think of as a friend over on Sunshine MINIs has 72,000 miles on his MINI. I’m thinking that’s getting up there. He will be the first I’m aware of to hit the 100K mark. :eek:

Had a Dodge diesel Quad Cab and put (my driver put) 250,000 in about two years, one new transmission, 99 % freeway miles (he hated Texas, "the only reason to be in Texas is to be leaving it". :lol: :lol:

I like the "Worst B-b-Q in Texas" had good food.

I'm stuck on 33k (in 20 months) now that I commute via the train everday.

20K and only 6 months old. this car will be with me for a looonnng time. And when he (MyTmaus) gets tired I'll bore him out to 1.8L and hold on tight.

23,0000 in 14 months,,but my MAIN CONCERN is when the warrenty runs out and have to pay those "BMW prices" on the Mini, Plan on selling the car at around 40K and buying another one to maintain the coverage.Thoughts on the high cost of maintaince after the warrenty runs out?

I'm finally ditching the '76 Volvo with 327K miles (talking high mileage!) on in for my spankin new MCS!!! Hope the MINI will go half that far!!
