VW's GX3 - what do people think?

I just came across some info on the Volkswagen GX3 - cross between a car and motorcycle. Curious to see what others in the MINI community think.

What I think? I want one and I could actually afford this one!

kenchan Feb 12, 2006 04:03 PM

Looks neat-o tho! I think Toyota put out something even funkier if you can imagine and that one seated 2 motorcycle style. Cool and weird. I likey!

Ultimate Mini

This out-mini's a mini. Mini Cooper for winter, GX3 for summer!

Here is another that was in Automobile magazine from a few months ago. It has the next generation MINI engine. Peugeot 20Cup Concept

mcswrks Feb 13, 2006 11:43 AM

I wonder how it would handle with only three wheels. Oversteer?

Born2Slow Feb 13, 2006 12:03 PM

hmmm...so, did VW copy the French? (Peugeot's ultralight 20Cup)

The MINITOR Feb 13, 2006 12:37 PM

That's even prettier.

jiggajaymz Feb 13, 2006 12:39 PM

my former friend came up with the original concept for the gx3 when he was interning at VW in simi valley.

kenchan Feb 15, 2006 10:46 PM

Owning one of those would be better than having the first mini in the USA... For years everywhere you went ppl would be dying to ask you what it is, how much is it... what kind of gas mileage, and how fast is it?

Personally I'd be interested.... 17 grand for a "motorcycle" that has some hope of being a bit safer than an actual motorcycle. Frankly speaking, the only reason I don't have a Bike is everyone I know that's had one has had a nasty accident, and I just have too much to lose.

That would be my plan also... The dang thing pulls 1.25 g's! For 17k, 46mpg, use of the commuter lane  . As I've planned all along the MINI will be my Fall/Winter ride (A/C coming-out after this Summer), and with the GX3 looking like it will happen, this will be my canyon commuter on the warm sunny days!

Oh, the red trike shown above (Peugeot) is FWD, I believe. While the body of the GX3 is not the most appealing, I feel, the panels are said to easily unfasten, so... I'm sure the aftermkt will have some mighty cool options  .

I love that Lotus and Swift are involved also...

For those who are interested, there is a fairly comprehensive thread going here, for which I just posted (joined moments ago):

I'm putting my name on the waiting list tomorrow. It's perfect and at $17k, it's a bargain. Any idea what engine it's running? It says it's a 1.6, but what's the last 1.6 that VW used?

TonyB Apr 11, 2006 08:28 PM

Let me know if a deposit is necessary. I'd like to do the same, most likely this weekend, but maybe after work one night...
