So while cruising Jalopnik.com before bed I found this fun story...

Chevy Tahoe Messes With Texas Mini Cooper, Pays Price

Some SUV buyers tend to feel that they're captaining the dreadnoughts of the road, impervious to all harm and thus free to futz with cupholders and electronic gadgetry rather than pay attention to traffic signals. In this incident in Texas- which, fortunately, did not result in any major injuries- a Chevy Tahoe was T-boned by a Mini Cooper and flipped right over. LeMons Neon racer and Enzo rejuvenator Matt Groner sends us these photos and a description of the wreck written by his friend, who was behind the wheel of the Mini:
"These pictures were taken by one of the firemen who were called to the scene, with his camera phone. The officials who responded to the accident could not believe that the Mini (and I) sustained so little damage. The other vehicle involved is a Chevy Tahoe. I was driving south on a one-way street and the other driver was driving west, also on a one-way street. The other driver ran a red light (that had been red for a long time) and appeared in the intersection just in front of me as I came through. I didn't even see them. I hit the passenger's side of Tahoe head-on, and the Tahoe rolled. In one of the pictures, you can see the Mini-shaped dent in the vehicle that is on its side. The driver of the Tahoe was unhurt and did get a ticket. She was also insured."

Wowza! SO glad you are okay!! Good for your MINI - it did it's job. What is your insurance company saying at this point - total or able to fix? Unfortunate that the other driver didn't fare so well - I do hope she is okay soon...

Good to see everyone walked away or should I say "rolled" away. :lol:

kenchan 11-24-2008 03:49 PM

wow...

remove the T on Tahoe and it means 'idiot' in japanese... :grin:

iceckid 11-24-2008 05:45 PM

I ran across this today and couldnt help laughin, hehe good post

beasleyboy 11-24-2008 08:14 PM

OMG, talk about a SUV getting owned! I seriously wonder if other Tahoe owners will think twice before messing with someone driving a MINI or even a SMART car!

miniola 11-24-2008 08:59 PM

I think I would have been too embarassed to get out of that Tahoe!:lol:

That's a pretty crazy story... thanks for posting.:thumbsup: (Ok get ready for lame) Bigger isn't always better... at least in Texas!:no:

Jalopnik.com X-post: MCS flips a Tahoe (w/pics)

Forgive me if ya'll have seen this article already, but I was pretty amazed to see the clearly supernatural strength of the MCS...

Chevy-tahoe-messes-with-texas-mini-cooper-pays-price

MCS = 1
Giant SUV = 0

:grin:

MrCooperS 11-24-2008 09:20 PM

Yeah but the damage area of the MINI is $$$$$$$$$ even if fixed, it won't drive the same any more. The Tahoe, you can probably just flip it over and drive it again.

Oxybluecoop 11-24-2008 09:26 PM

^^^^ I agree

MCS= insurance auction
Tahoe= repaired

CoMo R53 11-24-2008 09:57 PM

I love the fact that you can in fact, see a Mini shaped dent in the side of the Tahoe in the first picture. Still, makes me feel even better about going from a mid-sized sedan Volvo, to a Mini.

thulchatt 11-25-2008 05:38 AM

Love it.
SUV owner need to understand the high center of gravity and how easy these things are to roll. 9 times out of 10 when there is a rollover in my area the car is an SUV.

minjae 11-25-2008 07:25 AM

that's awesome..no offense to the people that were in the crash..but a mini flipping over an SUV?? :lol:
gotta show these pics along with the article to my friends..as they like to make fun of my tiny mini..(they're joking of course..but these'll show em :razz:)

MINI-charged 11-25-2008 07:49 AM

People don't realize that larger /= safer when it comes to crashes. I saw almost the same thing happen with a small honda t-boning a big pickup truck on the passenger side. The truck first rolled to the side, then flipped twice end over end. The girl in the honda got out and was fine. The truck driver was taken out by helicopter, and the passenger in the truck was rushed to the hospital by ambulance.

While the MINI in these pics certainly is no longer drivable, unlike possibly the Tahoe (flipped upright), I would still rather have been in the MINI. The car looks like it took the damage well instead of the people.

miniman101 11-25-2008 08:39 AM

Sure the Mini is in bad shape, but certainly the Tahoe is too. The whole side is smashed in, windows probably all broken. Then the side that is up against asphalt. All scrapped up, mirrors broken, windows broken. The SUX, oh, I mean SUV is most likely totaled as well.
But I agree MINI-charged, I would have wanted to be in the MINI for the crash for sure.

iwashmycar 11-25-2008 09:04 AM

glad to know if i t-bone somebody i'll most likely walk away like that. If it were the other way around, i doubt that guy would be telling the story for himself...

MrCooperS 11-25-2008 09:28 AM

Actually I got T-Boned by a Nissan Pathfinder and walked away.

I believe the Nissan suffered more extensive damage than I did.

Don't mess with Texas(-plated MINIs)

I like the mini-shaped dent in the tahoe.

IzzyG 11-25-2008 11:12 AM

Lol.. I'm quite speechless. Add this one to my bookmarked sites. :P

miniola 11-25-2008 11:21 AM

I still keep coming back to look at these pictures. I am really amazed that this MINI doesn't have more damage than it does. Just saw the show "Dogs 101" the other night and it was about the Bulldog... the breed created to bring down the bulls. Who knew we had so much in common with them.:nod:

I had mentioned in another post about the recent deaths of 2 MINI drivers in the past year... both in residential neighborhoods in the 30-35mph range within 7 miles from my home. They were not dangerous roads... but both died because they were not wearing seatbelts. (By the way, I believe that it should be a freedom of choice whether or not to wear one... it was just unfortunate that those two people died.:cry: )

There haven't been too many MINI's around here until this past year so when the first accident happened there were many people that thought it was me. (Even the guy that lives across from my mom and has never talked to me, talked to her and asked if I still had my "little car"... then he proceeded to tell her how unsafe they are and that she should talk to me. I am 37... but I do look much younger:lol: .)

Although I can understand why so many would assume that MINI's are not safe (due to size) I think that the safety of this little beast should be publicized! This is just one of the many examples (I'm sure) of accidents where the MINI driver walks away.:nod: I love it!

AKIndiMini 11-25-2008 11:36 AM

Glad to hear nobody was seriously hurt.

If I could have 5 cents for every time someone around here told me how unsafe small cars were, I'd be rich!

I'm bookmarking this one for future reference. :thumbsup:
