The latest speed photo enforcement device.

Prescott Valley is the first place to deploy the latest speed camera unit in the country! They had a press conference, so I couldn't resist getting some pictures. I talked to the PV police chief when he was substitute on the local talk radio show recently, when he announced the unveiling. I have more description on my Flickr site.

My radar detector showed it's K band. They didn't look too kindly when I drove by doing 70 mph.

Funny you said that, the Chief called it an R2D2 unit.

you should have had your pic snapped and when you went up to it to take that pic, have them recall your Mini.. That would have been pretty funny

I think that one errant detour up onto the curb would take care of that.

Zip

Has anyone ever heard of the gun that fires 1,000,000 rounds a minute? Well, that same company has a gun that kind of looks like that thing:

I wonder if Allie Sheedy will reprise her roll in Short Circuit 3 since her screen partner has a new look.

They have a deal with Red Flex, the company and the state make all the money. PV calls it "revenue neutral" to say they get $25 out of the ticket (average is $180) to cover personel and court costs, for those who try to fight it but always lose. Red Flex owns the equipment.

Stock tip: buy Red Flex stock because they expect to make a bunch of money.

Hawaii tried the speed cameras. There was a HUGE uproar from the community after there were ~2000 tickets in the first week or so (and it stayed at a fairly high pace the rest of the time).

After a couple months the program was dismantled. People who hadn't paid the tickets when the program was dimantled didn't have to pay them and those that had already paid were S.O.L.

One of the things people protested about was the fact that it wasn't law enforcement taking the pictures. They were civilians from the company who made the product (as in AZ).

Another protest was that they'd issue tickets for just a couple miles an hour over the limit.

It did have a very noticable effect on the traffic though! By the 3rd or 4th week very few people were speeding compared to before.

That is the intent. The problem is, with stationary cameras, everyone (except me of course, ~cough~) speeds up after they pass. That's the beauty of the mobile units.

I got snapped by one of those things in Italy doing 176 Km in a 30 Km zone. They were about to pull me out of the car by Uzi-point and it didnt help that I was drunk.....LOL (Disclaimer: For NAM Purposes.....lets say I was a passenger....LMAO)

speedcams are illegal where I live......well, not illegal, but unenforceable. The state constitution says you have a right to face your accuser in court.

Actually, it goes off if you are more than 10 MPH over the limit. Worse than those are the ones installed in minivans, etc., that they move all over the place. At least you know where the fixed ones are, if you regularly travel that route.

Except, your accuser is the state/local government, not the camera (just as a store camera recording a hold-up is not the accuser, it's evidence) and you do have the right to fight the ticket.
