no. the camera is not the gubment. there's a reason all the speed cameras here were removed and it's not because you're right and I'm wrong

Sure you have the right to fight these tickets. Problem is, it's like British Common Law, where you are guilty til proven innocent. They have a lawyer who reads something that takes the wind out your sails, so you are s.o.l.:sly:

Exactly. And the camera is not the accuser. The reason they are being removed and or not used in certain places is because of the cost/benefit and the fact that those passing the laws can't show their ID's or "family member" badges to a camera to get out of the ticket.

Yeah, the fact that the evidence against you is solid, doesn't mean it's unconstitutional.

actually, the cost/benefit is the MAIN reason localities run these. The cost of the equipment is subsidized by the manufacturers (Lockheed Martin is the big player)....the proceeds are divied up on a revenue share model. Win/win for Lockheed and the local gubment, bad for end users. There's a reason it's not considered a moving violation most places - it doesn't affect your insurance, so it's cheaper to pay the fine than it is to take time off work and fight it.

You're last comment is accurate. However, in places they have been installed, after the initial "gotcha period" studies have consistently shown that they aren't worth the cost.

I have read several articles on-line and in the paper on this that I have not saved. However, you may find something on NBC4.com and montgomery county gazette (don't know the website).

PGT 03-20-2008 07:30 AM

nbc4.com? they really should shut that site down...it's impossible to FIND anything that's not linked off the mainpage.

Loony2N 03-20-2008 07:34 AM

Yeah, plus the reports sound like they are written by school kids. Case in point from today: Headline: "Driver Killed In Accident in Montgomery County." Excerpt from article: ".... accident was fatal...." and "extent of injuries is unknown."

Actually the small demented robots are the county officials who approve these things with dollar signs in their eyes.

You mean that "living Constitution?"
They can justify the cost by claiming it saves lives, even if it cost a million bucks.
LynnEl: sounds like "fatal injury", which of course is PC for "killed."

US officials try faux speed bumps to slow drivers
...It was a fake speed bump, a flat piece of blue, white and orange plastic that is designed to look like a 3-D pyramid from afar when applied to the pavement.
The optical illusion is one of the latest innovations being tested around the country to discourage speeding. ...

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) _ A group of Santa impersonators are on the naughty list of Arizona law enforcement officials.

``Ho Ho Ho! Death to the surveillance state! Free movement for all people!''

The group that posted the video also wrote ``lumps of coal to all of those who make it their business to watch and control.''
