Runs $80 for the hand held reciever ($10 cheaper through other various special offers, ie. AAA used to have a discount link) and about $7/mo suscription. Updated every 3 minutes via a nation wide pager network from data obtained real time from the traffic speed sensors embedded in the freeways. Currently offers coverage for the Seattle and LA/OC area with more areas coming.

Sounds like the US is getting the stuff that Europe has had for quite some time. Not only that, but hey we get to pay for the privilege of having old technology. We are so behind in the US it isn't even funny.

Very interesting product. Doesn't look like a very safe product to use while driving though--seems kinda small. Not sure though. Wish I could receive it on my OEM Nav!

AAA still sells these for $64.95. You can buy one at your local AAA office. I've debated about buying one; nice thing is, it runs on 2 AA batteries for a month or so. It has no "off" switch. The only reason I don't have it is because I don't currently commute through any freeways it shows (it is missing the 2 freeway to Glendale). Also, my commute is mostly not on the freeway.

Personally, I think it would be useful for people who have a commute that regularly has alternate freeway routes. Most people really only have one choice, so if the freeway is jammed, they can't do much about it anyway.
