VERY cool! I love the integrated display in the rear view mirror...that is super slick! Well done man.

You have mounted the pickup in the bumper? I thought the idea was to get it mounted as high as possible. What about the rear pickup, it's is one of the best features of the V1?? I think the stealth idea is great, but only if it doesn't cutdown on the detectors efficiency.

Dr Obnxs 08-15-2010 09:34 PM

To each thier own...

you can mount the detector and the electronics separatly. So put the head unit whereever you want it and the stealth display and control still work.

Personally, I think the best feature is the display control with the FES Auto Sportplus but then I'm biased!

Thanks for posting the vid. A lot of people don't see how the accessory control can be used, and this is a perfect example.

Perfect. What kind of $$$ did you have to spend?

toolazyforalogin 08-16-2010 07:39 AM

very nice setup. my only gripe is the mute button location. other than that, sweet job!

I have traded numerous emails with Chris at www.stealthmirror.com regarding doing this to my 2009 JCW. I was all set to send him my rear view mirror but I was rear ended and just got my car back from the body shop so this project was on hold.

Chris is super responsive to emails. He does the mirror modding on the side. The turn around time from sending him your mirror until its returned depends on how you ship it but it's usually less than 1 week.

Its not cheap and its not overly expensive. If you have the V-1 concealed display already, you can send him your mirror and the concealed display for a reduced price. Or he can add the remote display to your mirror.

I will probably get back in contact with him in the next month or so to do this mod.

Mini Mirror With Two-way Glass and Disappearing Valentine V1 Display This is a standard Mini mirror, the glass has been replaced with a two-way mirror with the Valentine V1 display mounted behind it. When the detector is switched off the display disappears. The photograph shows some doubling of the display, this is just a result of photographing mirrors.

The mute button is behind the mirror because the V-1 concealed display is integrated into the mirror and its part of that concealed dispaly unit. You can also use the V-1 Remote Audio display to mute the V-1 but that is another $50 on to of the $40 for the remote display.

From my reading (mostly on radardetectors.net), no. The idea of getting it high is so it can "see" over the traffic in front of you. Going low has the same effect. In fact, it might be better.

I'd rather not add it up, but roughly...

V1: $400
Remote Audio: $50
Mirror: $350
A-Bond Box: $200
Install: $650

So $1650, very roughly.

Thanks! There are two mute buttons. On on the mirror and one on the box above the cup holders. I can't imagine a much better setup for the money.

redduc 08-16-2010 01:10 PM

Yeeehaaa! That's a few more than a few bucks. :) I have the V1 already. I suspect I could do the install myself if I had all the parts. Defidently worth considering.

karmavore 08-16-2010 01:14 PM

Yup, I forgot the FES AutoSportPlus... that's another $50+.

This is the remote audio device:

And this is the remote display that Chris takes apart and puts in the mirror:

Very cool  I have my V1 remote mounted hanging off the alarm module on the headliner. It picks up front and back. I have both the remote display and audio units. Can someone just buy the mirror only? Question for you though, since the V1 points both forward and back how does that work with it mounted in the front bumper? And can it be removed for use in another vehicle?

Of course you can buy the mirror only.

Radio waves penetrate all, they won't be stopped buy a thin plastic bumper.

HOWEVER... you probably will give up the pretty much useless laser detection. That's line of site.

CravenSpeed Hidden Power Adapter

Could also be pretty useful in wiring your iPhone...

The FES Auto Sport + is THE way to go if you have a device that you'd like to control without having to mount all kinds of switches in the car. With the auto sport + installed, you essentially have to switches that will control low power devices or a relay for higher power. My V1 is powered by the DSC stealth circuit so it I need to turn it off, I simply double tap the DSC button and it's powered off.

For my display, I took apart a V1 remote display, cut the housing down, soldered the wires back onto the board and now, the entire display is about a 1/4" thick. It's mounted on the dash between the tach and air vent so I can hit the mute button with my hands on the wheel and it's not visible from outside the car.

I'll be installing the LI unit this week so when I'm done, I'll post pics of the entire set up.

sooper_cooper 04-09-2012 03:23 PM

Very cool, great setup. The biggest downside though is that you seem to have lost the ability to detect radar behind you. That's one of the reasons I got a V1 in the first place.
