Hi-Fi front speaker replacement. Thud! Thud! Noise?
Last night I swapped the front door speakers on my R56 with HIFI with 2 sets of Infinity reference:
6022si to replace the 6.5" and 3022cf to replace the 3.5". They are 2 ohms and should not drain too much power from the stock amp. Now, I followed the wiring colors and instructions on the sticky and everything went fairly smooth, including the mirror switch. However, today I noticed that the left front 6.5 is making a very strange noise. Even with the bass set at -2, I get a sound that I can only describe as when someone taps into an open microphone (Thud!, Thud!) when the bass in playing. Tomorrow I'll be switching the speakers left to right to check if I got a defective set, and will double check the wiring colors. Any ideas or suggestions besides that? Thanks! |
Take off the foam that is attached to the circular speaker cover on the door panel....I'd bet this will solve your problem.
For left lower woofer - black/redstripe +, black/violetstripe - |
either as above or the sire going to the speaker is touching the cone as it the cone moves in and out.

Thanks guys..
I was planning on checking it this weekend, but it was busy with easter. I'll be doing it tomorrow and will post what I find |
Problem solved!
Thanks guys!
I took the speaker out today and found one of the copper wires that feeds the main cone was touching it. I would have never thought of looking there... Bent it back with the trim removal tool and re-tightened the speaker onto the door (found it a bit loose), and everything is OK now. Thanks again for the suggestions!! |

That is a very common problem. Luckily for you it was an easy fix, although probably time consuming with all that has to come off the door to get to the speaker.
