MINI's on the Dragon 2007 - Denver to Dragon Caravan and Road Food Tasting Tour
(Edited January 31, 2007)
The MOTD2007ARFTT is officially announced! For 2007, the Great Denver to KC to StL to Dragon caravan has morphed into something else. Heck, we figure that as long as we are going that far, we might as well enjoy some good 'eatin along the way, therefore the Road Food Tour. Here are the logistics. Please POST if you will either join us or meet us along the way, or if you think you have a local eatery worth stopping at.
Thanks, see you there, again. Jonathan Souza MINI5280.org JPS |
You know it! "DRAGON baby"
You know Zyamfier will be there. (what would a dragon trip be without the Dragon Wagon)
I did take a road trip not too long ago accross Nothern KS on HWY 18. See pictures here. Did not have the chance to find many interesting eating locations, but plan on making a trip down that way again before the end of winter. I will keep you informed of what I find. Also, I will inform the Omaha Coopers on thier yahoo forum. I can't wait. This will be great. Jim |
Jim, you can have the room
right in the front yard. You know, the one under the tent right next to the porch, just past the stump, on the other side of the gutter.
And you can use our loo, as long as you change the TP and bring some beer. See you there, on the way, somewhere in NE, at a little roadside restaurant. JPS |
Sounds cool, looking forward to it.

Dragon bound
Looking forward to making the 2007 trek to the Dragon (my first). It will be fun to take the indirect route and sample various eateries along the way and meet other MINI drivers!

I saw some neat things in Nebraska City on my way home from Omaha today.
The Kimmel Orchard has a little eating establishment and and great place to take pictures of MINIs. Hey they even have a full size SUV http://static.flickr.com/105/3005417...6bceb0.jpg?v=0 Stick Utility Vehicle |
Eek!
Don't drive it nekkid!
|
How did I miss this. The last Friday in April is Arbor Day. We would be getting to Nebraska City on Saturday eve or Sunday morning. This would be a good thing in that there would be a lot of people. However, double edge sword lots of people means limited lodging.

Pot O' Gold at the end of the Rainbow
Details are just being announced about the 2nd Annual Dragon Brewswap. Check the site and details HERE:
www.DragonBrewSwap.com Matthew Rohrbach is hosting and organizing, like no other. You will not want to miss it. JPS |
For those of you in the MINI5280 Party Cabin
(or for that matter, on the front lawn) I have extended the Reservation to begin on Wednesday evening vs Thursday. That will begin May 2nd if you are keeping track, 4 nights.
We will now have a surprise guest joining us. Stay tuned. JPS |

Here is my proposed agenda for the Dragon next spring
Saturday to Nebraska, maybe a group gtg at the dealer in Omaha?
Sunday to StL via rural Iowa and Missouri - Dinner on the Hill (Italian, of course) Monday to Indiana (Brown County / Nashville area) Tuesday to Knoxville (Smoky Mountain area) Wednesday to the Dragon via the Smokies (practically there already) We will plan to eat our way down, doing the backroads, finding the diners, nothing but net. Jim, you are in charge of the NE party, location, details, whatever. JPS |
Working on it thus the trip to the dealer and Nebraska City a couple of weeks ago. See the following thread. There is also an interesting road between Atchison and Leavenworth, KS it is on the way to KC.
|
I drove that road back in October
when I was in KC for the American Royal. Went to Atchison to pay respects to my Grandfather (who was born there) and Amelia Earhart (Purdue Grad). Frankly, the River Road was not all that exciting, nor was Leavenworth (did not stop at the PX). I would not choose to do it again - there was lots of traffic and it was very hard to get around what was there, even tho I had a nice little Chrysler Crossfire.
But hey, country roads are country roads and I'll drive any of 'em.... JPS |
Possible eateries along the way:
Nashville (Brown County) Indiana: Artists Colony Inn and Restaurant or the Gnaw Bone Marathon (for Pork Tenderloin Sandwiches)
StL - Giovanni's on the Hill for Italian Please, add your suggestions. JPS |
Ted Drew's - StL from Alton Brown's Feasting on Asphalt
|
What would you think of
Sanders Cafe in Corbin, KY on the way to Knoxville? Alton mentions that too...
JPS |
Yes, Kernel of C.O.R.N meets Colonel of Chicken.

Crack me up.

There is supposed to be a show on the Travel Channel Friday morning. The shows title is World's best fast food places. I will be recording it to see if there is anything on our projected route. Let all y'all know what I find out.
|
Good suggestion.
Whatever you think will be good, we will go there.
I have been checking out a site with many suggestions - www.PorkTenderloinSandwich.com Check it out. JPS |
Guess the Colonel is it. That was the only establishment mentioned on the show near our proposed route So that is one more vote for Sanders Cafe.
|
Nothing wrong with Sanders Cafe
when the need arises. 6 strips, dipped in Buffalo sauce. Dripping wet and hot, yum yum. Then 2 Tums...
