Received the above today for my 03 MCS. It's 8 pages with 53 questions. I'm going to give my MCS a perfect rating as it's been trouble-free for 5,483 miles.

Here my (our) chance to impact in a positive manner the MINI experience. Anybody else get this opportunity from J.D. Power?

Yes...I filled out the JD Power Survey. At the time I completed the survey I had 12K miles and had had 5 quality issues with my MCS. I filled out the survey honestly and objectively. If I would have had no quality issues I certainlyly would have mentioned that. Since filling out the questionaire I have had an additional 4 quality issues and am now at over 20K miles.

For JD Power to be credible, owners need to fill out objectively and honestly based on what reality is and not what you would like it to be....if your car is trouble free, by all means say that, but if it is not, then say so. I must admit I'm not surprised by the results for Mini based on my MCS. These surveys also get the manufacturers to make improvements which I'm sure BMW will address....

I got that one. Really had nothing to do with the car's performance and quality, honestly. This one was more concerned with what made you buy the MINI and how was your experience with the dealer. HUGE section on internet auto shopping. I was honest. I'm a little disappointed I didn't get the satisfaction survey. I really could have had some constructive comments to put in there. It seems MINIUSA is paying more attention to J.D. Power results than to us, so it'd be nice to give feedback through who they listen to most.

I couldn't agree more, Miniblues.

I just received my 2003 MCS four days ago. While the dealership and sales experience was excellent, I have already discovered the following quality issues with my MINI:

1. Large 2" diameter blemish under the clearcoat. Barely visible under white light (showroom). Highly visible in afternoon sunlight. Looks like a dark spot. My car is red.

2. Found white paint drips on dash under the airbag sticker. Found white paint smears on soft vinyl dash. I have cleaned and removed these myself.

3. Found black smudges and black streaks on white pillars throughout the car. Some look like greasy finger prints. Some look like streaks from installation. I haven't tried cleaning these.

4. Creaking/squeaking coming from behind glovebox. I know where the problem is, but I can't get to it.

5. The now common stutter/hiccup in first gear when launching from a dead stop. It's not the end of the world, but it's annoying.

6. I'm sometimes hearing a little bit of clatter when I shift. Probably will mean I need my transmission replaced from reading reading posts on the forums.

7. Oh, and I almost forgot. The emblem on my stearing wheel has a small crease in it.

Not too shabby for a four day old car, huh?

I'm trying to take all this in stride, but it's against my nature.

See ya,
JS

In 1994, Land Rover introduced the Discovery to the NAD (North America Dollar) market. By mid-1995, sales where through the roof and LR was pumping out Discoverys as fast as they could. Huge mistake.

Unfortunately, there was more attention paid to getting them out the door rather than getting them out the door RIGHT. Quality suffered. Complaints grew.

LR started a program whereas those units after a certain date were given more then the normal attention upon arrival at the dealers. It helped the situation somewhat while the factory processes were adjusted. As I remember, it took about a year for the program to really take hold.

Two points: maybe Mini should consider slowing down production and focus of better quality. And, never buy a Discovery built between mid-1995 and 1996.
