checkered roof, but not on the sunroof

howdy all,

i'm going to be ording my MCS soon. i was planning on ordering the factory checkered sunroof cover, but i want to be able to see through the sunroof. so now i'm debating if i should get just the outside of the sunroof "checked" or get white checks on the sunroof so that I can still see out of my sunroof. any thoughts? also, does anyone know anyone/shop in Southern California that can help me out with that (particulary closer to San Diego)?

Thanks all!!!

My wife's '05 has the checkerboard only on the sunroof - believe me, you will still get light through the sunroof. I have nothing on my sunroof and the light is too bright so my advice would be to get the checkerboard on your sunroof - I don't think that you will regret it. I don't have the checkerboard on mine because the roof is silver and I don't think that the white of the checkerboard would look very good.

Thanks rhawth99 for your input!!! I've heard about the light being too bright w/ just the the sunroof. Even with the mesh pulled in, would it still be too bright you think? With your wife's car, can you see through the checkerboard cover? Do you have a picture of what it looks like from inside the car?

That is soooo cool that you and your wife drive MINI's!!!

Hi, I have an un-checkered sunroof, my checkers go around it. I LOVE it. I don't feel the light is too bright - of course I AM in Wisconsin the land of winter gray - NOT sunny SanDiego! It gives my car a little different look than some of the other checkered roofs around. You can also see the checkers more easily when the car is viewed from the side. The checkers on my car are also smaller than some of the fully checkered roofs I've seen - 3.5". Best of luck and enjoy your new MCS!!

Out here in AZ we like to cover the sunroof with solid material because there is now way to avoid 115 degrees on your head otherwise.

The perf material is great for the not so hot climates and does block out a good portion of the sun.
Here is what the perf looks like. I keep this on my site for reference. It really boils down to personal choice.

The screen doesn't do a good job of blocking out the sun... I have my sunroof covered w/ checkers (not perforated) and still get quite a bit of light through them, but nothing reaching uncomfortable levels.

$40 bucks at my local Tinit shop for 5% (Limo Black) and is super for sunny "Central" Cali. First time around I had 20% and it was just "ok". Had the sunroof replaced (warranty-rattle) about 2mos ago and the 20% went with it, so that gave me the opportunity to go 1 shade darker.....love it.
