Props to Munich Sport
Props to Munich Sport
I gotta give props to Munich Sport in the Pel-ham for taking care of me in what became a nightmare of a brake install. For those who don't know I had new Hawk HPS pads & Brembo rotors installed all around on my MINI a few weeks ago. Well 2 days after the install I noticed my right rear wheel was pitch black with brake dust while the other 3 wheels remained perfectly clean. Munich checked it 2 times, Goodyear checked it once, & I spoke with the MINI dealership about it. Everyone was baffled. I managed to wear a rotor & pad down 50% in 600 miles
all the while never feeling like a brake was dragging. It was decided that the only thing left unreplaced was the caliper so I ordered one.
Today Munich Sport installed the new caliper & it is fixed

I had to buy the caliper & a second set of rear pads but Munuch supplied a free new rotor & did all the labor for free (including the caliper install
). That is going above & beyond the call of duty in my eyes & I just have to give them props for handling everything so well

I will say Jack at Munich seems to get a kick out of us MINI folk. They mostly work on BMW's in their shop. I was bee-yotching about the rust on my new rotor hats showing thru my wheels & he said only 1 in 100 people will notice that. I asked how many MINI drivers out of 100 would notice the rust & he said "all 100
"
. I said yeah us MINI folks are pretty particular about our MINIS. He said "yeah I know
"
I said well we are "entusiasts". He said "uh huh". I said do you BMW people not care about rust on your rotors. He said no. I said why not. He said because we go faster

what was the price on the new caliper? Last time I did my brakes I notice mine was acting a little funny but I didn't want to replace it because of the cost.
Glad you got your problem fixed.

The new caliper was $235 + $23 shipping
delivered from Global. But if you don't order online from their website it will be $257 + shipping. You have to order it from the Global BMW site & know the part # to get the discount (I think it was between 5-10%). I called Global, Hank Aaron, MINI of Nashvile, & Morristown MINI & none of them had it in stock but shipping was quick. I ordered it online Monday & received it on Thursday

Taking mine to Jack next week, brakepads are shot, putting new rotors on the back and changing the brake fluid. Got a couple more DE's in the next month and it's nice to be able to stop.
I think I was the only Alabama MINI at Barbers last weekend.
