May / June - Mini Club of Hawai'i
Hey gang,
Sorry I've been kinda absent lately. My primary computer here at the house decided that it was time to give up and crash... and then I've been dealin' with some not-really-fun sleep problems. So - if I vanish for a while that's why!
Ok - on to more fun stuff:
June 1st from 9:00am to 3:00pm at Kapiolani Park is Honolulu's All British Car day! I haven't checked to see what they think of the new MINI, but I'm sure if I called I could get an area reserved for us. I'll be takin' the little red guy down there, but I'm not sure for how long. My schedule for that day over at work is kinda up in the air.
Italian Job - I guess we're still havin' the screening, but I haven't seen anything new come through my inbox lately. Then again, it might have gotten posted here on MCO and I just missed it.
I'll post more information on the Brit Car Day event when I get it.
Aloha,
Andy

Aloha,

Andy, the Brits voted us in (of course they would) and I talked to the president a month or so ago and he said he really should get the flyer out, but I hadn't gotten it by the time I left on May 1. He did say the gathering was in the Waikiki Shell parking area and they'd be happy to see us. I think 8:30 am was the time.
No, Andy, you didn't miss any posts on the IJ premiere. Guess they're still working on it. I am staying in LA for an extra day to go to the drive-in premiere at Paramount Studios on the 20th. But I'll work with Judy when I get back to get ours set up.

Sylvia,
I've got the start time on the flyer, but of course it's at home and I'm at work right now! I'll double check the details today. Either way, 8:30 or 9:30... should be fun. Hopefully we can get a good bunch of folks down there.
As for how I got my flyer... hehehe... Bryan O and I were on our way from the (ahem) "event" at the Mini mart over to the MINI showroom - drivin' through downtown when this guy in a Camry pulls up next to me and sticks some paper out the window like he's tryin to hand it to me. At first I was kinda confused, 'cause my brain was trying to figure out why in the heck someone would try to do this in a car. ...then I saw the Union Jack on it  He was all excited to see an original Mini and missed his turn just so he could give me the flyer. I don't need *another* one, but I'm going to go check it out and see what kinda shape the car is in.

Hello there!
MINI of Hawaii will be participating on the British Car event on June 1st.
We will have a display and one of our Motoring advisor will be there. Of
course!! all of you MOTORERS out there will be there to support.
MINI meet? we've talked about it. It supposed to be the first Sunday of
every month. But, because of the Bristish Car event on Sunday, June 1st,
we thought of rescheduling on Sunday, June 8th. Time? about 10:00am,
what do you guys think? MINI will supply the coffee, pastries, doughnuts,
etc.. Who's providing the movie?
Italian Job? a little announcement went out today. Stay tune for more.
Any suggestions, feedback on the MINI events is welcome. Thank you
all for supporting MINI of Hawaii.
" Happy safe Motoring" ... hawaiian style.

Thanks Latka and Sadie for info on the British car event June 1 at 830am-
Will try to attend and good to hear Mini of HI will be there too.
June 8th for monthly get together- OK with me- meet at Mini of HI? 10am?
How does your large screen projector work? DVDs? would be neat to get Sylvia to bring the original Italian Job DVD and multi region DVD player and hook it up to the large screen and see the movie- about two hours - or maybe the special commentary track. Otherwise if the TV takes DVDs we will have to think about which movie to show- any nominees? PG rated would be better because their might be customers that come by and don't want to see something grusome being watched. Commedy is good- Big fat greek wedding ? Amelie? Bourne Identity? Matrix!!!!
So much for comedy

I'll be happy to bring both. I sent Aka a copy of the Region 2 DVD before I left, which he said he should be able to plug through from his computer to show in the showroom.
I also have Grand Prix, a great car movie, and the Bourne Identity. Also Four Weddings..., which has some cute Mini scenes. My DVD player is tiny and I'd be happy to bring it if it can be hooked up to the system. I'm also trying to get copies of some of the more obscure British Mini movies while I'm still in LA (there's a great video store here with totally off-the-wall and rare stuff).

I vote for Grand Prix. MINIhune can explain about the effect of weight transfer on the handling of a vehicle and make double or triple shots of espresso to get us wired for the movie. Hmmm, maybe a quadruple god shot!
If I make a good strong single shot- it is likely to burn your throat so I don't know about a quadruple. My stuff is pretty potent as is.
For normal people I will try to also bring decaf espresso so you don't need to be afraid. Looking forward to June 1 830am at the park and to June 8 at the Mini of HI showroom 10am. I will scout out the showroom for set up for espresso tomorrow morning.

Okay gang, our monthly movie meets are set for a while. Just got copies of Alfie, Goodbye Pork Pie, The Sandwich Man, and Robbery, all of which are supposed to star Minis. I will make copies of all (some I rented are pre-recorded, others not, so quality will vary), and we can play them whenever we want. None of these obscure UK and NZ movies are likely to come out on DVD any time soon, but I can also bring a VHS machine if needed.

Thank you Sadie for the entertainment-
Looking forward to seeing these movies- can we dim the lights? We can still have the parking lights on the minis on in the showroom so we can see where we are going.

Sweet! Sounds like a great Mini Movie lineup.
Gotta get a carburretor problem sorted on out the red car before the 1st.... ugh. Poor little 30 year old British engine is grumpy in the mornings!
Can't wait to see you all again.

Latka-
Based on the ferocity of the turnout for the IJ showing and large motor force assembled for the Waikiki rally that followed I think that in Hawaii we have critical mass for a Hawaii Mini club of some sort.
Did you get a chance to talk to anyone at last night's get together to ask about interest in this?
Too bad we didn't have a sign up sheet but it looks like people were having fun and that this is the first of many mini events that we can have.
We are getting the reputation for being an active zone for Mini happenings from social events to gala events to driving schools to rallys and more. Summer is also a good time to get out and be in the public. I think the tourist liked us. Not sure if the police did though

After reading in another thread about the H2 camp how about this:
What I'd be interested in is a MINI camp- a few days living in a nice resort like area with a series of events like:
Car control clinic half day
A little time on the track- half day
Mini on the internet class- finding stuff about the mini easily
Appearance and performance modification classes-how to and explanations
Basic Auto understanding class- how cars work-what makes the mini special-Jack a mini up and take a look
Movie night- have giveaways- a movie that shows minis, a dance, etc.
Car rallys or driving activities
It sounds like club Mini!
Some ideas- like rent out space or time somewhere near Ihilani- nice resort if you want to be away from Waikiki-but close to Hawaii raceway park-so we can do the car control clinic and have some track time, turtle bay Hilton also very nice but far from most things -still could rally to HRP. There's a mililary camp out in Makua but you need someone that has connections.
Could last two or three days long and include basic stuff for the non-mechanical and upgrade how tos for people that like that. We have enough minis to show the actual mods and we have some driving school instructors that might be able to demonstrate what can be done with a mini- I wonder if we have any stunt car drivers we can call on- will have to ask Sylvia- now that would be worth attending- Don't try that at home

Sorry, Minihune, I don't know anyone currently in the racing/stunts crowd anymore. Perhaps the HRP people do. Your weekend Mini-mania plan sounds really great.
But I think we need to start a little smaller than that, with something like that as a ultimate goal. The monthly "Mini and a Movie" sessions are a good start.
Events like last night (Mahalo, Mini of Hawaii!) showed everyone how cool any get-together of Mini enthusiasts can be. I think everyone had a terrific time last night and it was great to see so many new faces.
Latka and I will be getting together this month to try and brainstorm ideas for really getting the club going. The enthusiam and support of all of you is inspiring and we'll try to come up with somthing everyone from MCS performance people to daily driver MCs can enjoy.

Sylvia-
Yes I agree we an start smaller, just thinking about the possibilities given the great turnout last night. Sure we can work up to it and build as we go.
OK on the stunt driver. We can just ask Latka to stand in. He's "nearly" professional- right????

Louie's mom and dad-
You can sign up the next time you are in Hawaii-
Then the next hurdle is figuring out how to do it and where.
The concept is good and the location is attractive.
The details will work themselves out.
Are you SURE you don't want to relocate or retire in Hawaii?
You can bring Louie and get reunited with Sadie- how nice
