Problems with open door/boot light??

I've noticed that ever since the weather has gotten warmer in the past few weeks I've been having problems with the open door and boot light on the speedometer. It keeps randomly turning on and the dome light goes on. Then in a minute it will go off again.

Has anyone had this problem? I've tried pulling over and reshutting all my doors, but it still happens. Is this something only the dealer can fix?

(sorry if this has been asked, I couldn't find anything with a search)

Sounds like the door/boot micro switch may need an adjustment. Warmer weather could change the gap, and could also indicate a bad/shorted wire.

Is the light fading out or shutting off quickly?
On my 2003, the door handles froze on me one night and the car kept turning the inside lights on, then the safety feature would dim them after a minute or so. It kept repeating this throughout the night and the battery eventually died. Had it towed in to the dealer and they replaced the door handle. Obviously, your doors are not freezing, but the signs of a defective handle are the same. The switch that senses door closure is contained within that assembly. This should be a quick repair for a dealer.

There's a TSB on this issue. The switch actuator for the boot light/boot open switch in the boot is too short will intermittantly cause the indicator and dome light to come on while driving. Take it in to your dealer and they can install a new switch with a longer actuator.

In the meantime, you can affix some sort of a spacer (1/8 to 1/4") to the inside of the boot hatch where the switch makes contact with the hatch. I had a small rubber bumper that I used until I could get in to have the switch replaced.

I'll take a look for the TSB and post a link if I find it.

Phil

The TSB Number is M630103. You used to be able to find them on-line here M630103 but it looks like All-Data has made that a subscription service now.

thanks everybody - glad to know it's a quick fix.

I'll stop pulling over on the highway to reshut my doors now.
