Serious Issues! Need input!

Okay so I was playing around with a buddy of mine and his Jetta 2.0t. Its a sweet little car, put down 302whp so its fairly quick. Anyways we were doing some runs from like 10mph and 25mph roll and everytime I would hit redline and shift to second it would just like die. The pedal would be on the floor and car wouldn't be moving, just rolling as if I was on the clutch. I have seen this in other Mini's and would like to know if anyone knows what is going on. I went back out later and kept running 1st to redline, shifting real fast and punching it to the same effect each time, a car that wasn't accelerating. It is about a 2 second lag and would allow him to pull 2 cars on me each time. Is there a way to fix this? Its really quite annoying.

Is your DSC on? If you power shift into second, you can spin your front wheels causing the DSC to essentially shut your engine down.

Rev limiter to keep you from over doing it and harming the engine (WILL NOT WORK FOR DOWN SHIFTING) Simple solution, short shift 500 RPMs it'll put you in a better spot on the torque band may even cut your 1/4 mile time by about a 1/2 second. FYI in order for me to hit it I have to be 500 RPM PAST redline.

Well I have EvoTech software that raised the rev limiter to 7250...I shift right at 7200...could that be the cause, should I just be shifting at 6800 for the first gear?

Deffinately sounds like your DSC is on. Hold down the dsc button for five seconds and then try it.

1. Try the DSC thing...
2. Go back to DynoComp and see what they say...sounds like an aftermarket software issue.

What he said... Learn to turn off the "no fun" button when your testing with other cars. Now go and show your boy what the deal is haha

At least in my car, just clicking the button doesn't turn it off. Gotta hold it for a sec or 2 then it'll turn off. 5 secs is prolly just an exaggeration...

I can hold my own (at the strip) on a near stock engine up against a highly modded (intake Pulley IC head header exhaust software plugs) when I shift at 6k and they shift @ 6800 because if where I pull the power and how much smoother my revs match between gears and it keeps me in the peak area on the TQ band. (Its real good to have a friend witht the same kind of car you can hit up the local stip on a Fri night with and sit down and debrief to improve your times)

That said I leave on the traction control and I think the tires fell of 30 ft behind me cause the car falls flat on its nose; however that is something I get early on in first when driving at the accelaration limits.

I am 99% sure that is what BMW requires to fully turn off all traction control features. Not sure if its the same for MINI.

What year is your car? Sounds like a difference in gear ratios.

Also with a proper launch technique you will turn faster 60' times with the DSC off. It cuts back way too much power.

Now when you say it was not turned on... Was the light on or off?

ASC+T is part of DSC and it is the +T ppart that causes allthe launch issues.

THe ASC light was OFF...the little light that comes on in the speedo wasn't on. Now also, you said ASC affects launch but we were messing around from a roll....no launch involved.

The light being off means that it is on...

Step on it and its real easy to get the tires fast enough, and the system will kick in.

DynoComp/EvoTech issue...? Maybe your EvoTech flash was overwritten by the dealer if you took it in recently and your redline is back to 6850? How long have you had the EvoTech? How long since your last dealer visit?

As far as the DSC/ASC thing, you can trip it while rolling during a shift...

I have went to the dealer for a window fix since the software but the car still allows me to do 7250 before it hits the rev limiter so I believe the software is still there. I will stop in and have them re-flash it just to help my conscience.
