I got tail light tint from lamin-x, and i have not had any problems with it yet. It's been on for a while now too. I think that as long as there is read showing/reflecting in the rear it is ok. My 3rd brake light is still red.

In the event any windshield or rear window fails to comply with this code the officer making the inspection shall direct the driver to make the windshield and rear window conform to the requirements of this code within 48 hours. The officer may also arrest the driver and give him notice to appear and further require the driver or the owner of the vehicle to produce in court satisfactory evidence that the windshield or rear window has been made to conform to the requirements of this code.
There . . . wasn't that easy to understand? In sum, get a note from your doctor!!!!!Whoops!!! That is the simple law on window tinting. Here is a summary of the simple law on tinting tail and headlights - it is a no no unless the color is correct:
Color of Turn Signal Lights California Vehicle Code Section 24953
Turn signal bulbs may either be white or amber in the front of a motor vehicle and red or amber in the rear. Clear turn signal bulbs are not allowed in the rear of a motor vehicle. Turn signal bulbs mounted on the side of a vehicle can only be amber in color unless they are located at the rear of the vehicle. Turn signal bulbs mounted on the rear-side of a vehicle may flash red as long as the red flash is not visible from the front of the vehicle.
Taillights California Vehicle Code Sections 25950, 24600, & 24607
All light emitted to the rear of the vehicle must be red unless the light is amber from a turn signal or white from a backup light. If a cracked or broken taillight emits a white light, the vehicle will be in violation and law enforcement authorities may stop the vehicle and cite the driver and/or owner. One of the most common reasons cited by law enforcement for pulling over a vehicle is because of a taillight that is either out or defective. Dont let this happen to you. In general, custom taillights that incorporate a clear outer shell and red inner lens or bulb are legal. However, two red reflectors are required on the rear of cars and trucks and clear or white reflectors are not allowed on the rear of vehicles.
Headlights California Vehicle Code Sections 25950 & 24011 & California Code of Regulations Title 13 Section 692
All light projected from a vehicle to the front of the vehicle may be either white or yellow. Even though it is common to see vehicles equipped with purple and blue headlights, these vehicles are probably in violation of this section. Look for the DOT symbol on the bulb and package. Headlight covers are also not legal.
If I was just traveling through california could they get me for this? (my car is registerd elsewhere, somewhere where you can do what you want to your car) I have the factory clear tail lights, but they still flash amber. Legal writing always confuses me, maybe they didnt word it right.
