AUX input Suddenly DISCONNECTED!?

OK. So this is weird. I was listening to my ipod on
the way to work thru my aux input when all of a sudden
my aux input option on the control panel 'disappeared' and
my cd player turned on. usually I can toggle thru cd, radio or
aux. but now when I try to toggle it back to aux...ITS NOT THERE!
Has this happened to anyone else before? could the cable in the
glove box have disconnected? would that make the whole car unable
to recognize I have an aux input?? I havent had much time
to examine the situation because I'm at work, so any help would
be much appreciated to ease my mind. thanks in advance!

I bet if you are powering the iPod through the lighter. A quick fix is to run the iPod off it's battery. This happens all the time due to a ground loop. You can get a ground loop isolator to fix it permanently. More info can be found in this thread:

Yeah, that's the ticket. I had the exact same problem. I installed the ground loop isolator (about $14 from Crutchfield I think), and the problem went away completely.

I'm just bummed we have to do this for a $14 part! You would think they could tack $10 on to the Aux kit and take care of it for us. Worse yet, my SA couldn't figure out the problem. I had to find the solution myself on NAM.

Once again, NAM saves the day

Using the belkin auto kit for charging the iPod works too. I had the same issue before.

I had three of them go out within 2 months...Was not a ground loop problem. Tried all the fixes listed did not help. Would not run off battery. You should try that first. If that solves your problem then it is ground fault...if not bad aux adapter.
