I'm considering getting the American flag roof as a dealer option, but I understand it is a decal and not painted on. I'm not sure whether the decal will hold up over time or begin to peel off at some point. Can I get some imput from flag owners on how it looks and how it is holding up?

Thanks,
Jay

Go for the flag!

No vinyl decal lasts forever and at some point, probably in about 7-10 years, it will become cracked and faded. Not a problem, however! You can always get the roof repainted (because the paint will fade where the decal isn't located, and look new underneat the decal) and add another flag or other pattern.

I've got the Union Jack decal on the roof and have not noticed any problem. I'm sure it will fade over the years, as will the paint. Plus you can always remove or replace the decal.

Hey, then you just get a cool reverse-painted-flag effect on your MINI... With a good design, that might actually look pretty darn nifty...

wessieball, did he use a heat gun to remove it? That will generally remove it without harm and whatever is left of the adhesive can be buffed out by a paint shop.
