Met with a dealer (NJ) & took a test drive, want the sports combo package, sunroof, cvt, came to the total price & my husband wants to talk price & can they do better (all I want is the car- )
Was told no dealers do better than what the mini price is- that its a standard set by BMW. Is this true or is there room somewhere to bargain? Please advise as my husband is making me crazy!!! Thanks!

Ever since the very start, the Mini has been HOT,HOT, HOT! Some dealers charge MSRP, some MSRP plus dealer mark up. Don't pay more than MSRP Good Luck!

About the only negotiating we were able to do was on the car we traded in for the MINI-Considering it was 10 yrs old with almost 100k miles on it we actually got slightly more than blue book.

At MINI of Towson (MD), they told me that a Motoring Advisor (i.e., salesperson) would get fired if they sold below MSRP. I expect this will change in a year or two, though.

You don't say if you wanted to buy a car from existing stock ("off the lot&quot or via order. If it's from order, you will pay MSRP. Don't pay more. If the dealer wants to charge more, walk -- and find another dealer, even one out of state, who will let you order for MSRP. There are lots.

If on the other hand you're considering buying from dealer stock. Let your husband try to negotiate. It's worth a try and unless he's obnoxious (which I'm sure isn't the case) it can't hurt. There have been a number of reports of dealers selling existing stock for less than MSRP. It's getting close to the end of the month...usually that's a good time to cut a deal. Good luck and let us know how it comes out.

Why would they sell it before MSRP if the can seel them above MSRP, and have people wait 6 months to get one? Supply and demand.

Uh, because more to the immediate point than supply and demand, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. In other words, at this time of the month when one is trying to clear inventory and meet sales numbers, it may be better to sell a car at 5% profit than 8% profit if you can make an immediate sale. That was my point about in-stock vs. order.

Besides, not everyone waits 6 months to get one...
