First adventure with the Bandit
First adventure with the Bandit
Yes, I call my MINI the Bandit
I think it is fitting
The trip started at 8AM EST and was logged for a run from Rochester, NY to State College, PA. Reason? Rugby!!
Started out in the snow, horrible weather, but the DSC kept me trudging along the entire way. After I got out to Geneseo, NY the weather started looking up. We're on a full tank and the Bandit is doing well. I love going to PA for one soul reason: The Southern Tier Expressway.
This is my favorite part of driving. 55mph speed limit with a TON of twisties and scenic views. I couldn't help but to bring out my lil Kodak camera and snap some photos of the trip. Got some pretty good ones of the roadway and some cars I was driving next to. Yes, the flash scared the drivers. That or the fact I was driving such an "Incapable car" in the snow compared to their V8 powered gas guzzler.
The Bandit powered through the twisties and I did not feel ANY understeer (A common problem I hear) taking the turns at 50+. The best part is going through some of the banks that are cut straight through a mountain. It's absolutely breathtaking.
On the way down I did not see any Coopahs which was a little disappointing. I saw a few of my other loves though (WRXs) and gave them a thumbs up. (Boxer engine Woo!)
When I finally got to PSU, I quickly found I was not the only one with a Coopah. No, I found two other owners (One BRG and the other CR) who were adament of theirs as well. After playing two very heated matches, sweating up a storm and getting down and dirty, I changed out my kit and threw it in the boot. Stopped by a local gas station where I was given a laugh. I rolled up the same time as a Cadillac Escalade did and we filled up across from each other. The driver was a blonde woman and couldn't stop staring at my car. Needless to say, she was still filling up when I left with the marker at "F"
The trip back was nice as well, took a few more pics, and laughed at the fact that a stretch of the highway had markers stating that I was driving on the property of the Pennylvanian Asylum for the Criminally Insane. Comforting.
Saw a few more MINIs and gave them a thumbs up. Only one returned the favor (Come on kids, we really need to work on that..). By the time I got back into NY it was miserable and snowy again. Just like before, the DSC kept me from slipping into a guardrail and the Bandit held fast to the road.
All in all it was a great little trip with a few MINIs and some great rugby action.
Here is my Facebook album for it (I'm at the office right now so I don't have my albums on the computer) http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...761&id=9027900
