how can I get road tar off my wheels?

Hi,

It's been a while since I have posted anything, but I check back once in a while. I have a ton of road tar on my v-spokes and regular car washing doesn't remove. I was thinking of using wd40, any other suggestions are appreciated, Thanks

NAPA bug and tar remover has always worked for me.

WD-40 works great. Shouldn't take more than a couple minutes. I recommend reapplying wax to areas that you've used the WD-40 on though.

I have never waxed the wheels. Is it necessary to wax them after using wd40?

Nope, not the wheels.....sorry.....didn't read the thread well enough. Rewaxing would only apply to the paint on the car. Some folks wax their wheels but I'm of the opinion it's not required.

if that doesn't work use gasoline on a rag.

make sure you dispose your rag properly in a tin container.

For painted surfaces I use Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover.

If your wheels had been waxed, it would have been a lot easier to get the tar off - like finger nail easy.
I know WD-40 works as does Goof-Off. No need to get the gasoline out to tackle tar when there are other, safer products available.

If they are really bad, you might try using a plastic putty knife to really get after it. The hood on my sister inlaw's Durango was so bad I needed to use a plastic putty knife to get the baked on sap off. I was a little hesitant at first, but it came out great!
