I know that this was talked about allot but I read today in another thread that engines "might" be failing do to lightened crank pulleys.

Has this happened to you???

I'm planning on putting on a 2% but now I just want to make sure it's safe.

Any personnel experience would be greatly appreciated.

M7 16% + M7 2% 10,000 miles, many track days and no problems.

I just added my M7 2% CP and would do it all over again anytime . You will read that it harms the engine, but till date I saw no real life complaints from NAMers. The engine feels more lively and I don't honestly believe that the team at M7 will sell you a part that will harm your engine. Go For It

How much boost you running with this cold weather? I'm betting about 18psi with H2O sprayer and 17% only.

There was a thread like this around a year ago, but it asked people to specify their SC and crank pulley sizes, and how long each had been running, for the express purpose of trying to determine whether crank and/or SC pulleys might significantly increase the risk of failure. I would say that the data was not damning of either type of pulley, even though it was probably not statistically sound due to too small a sample.

Some proponents of engine dampening might disagree, as I believe there was one failure experienced out of the roughly 20 or so persons who provided data points. I remember at the time it did not settle the argument.

What I have seen complained of most in this forum is "shredded" belts. No one has argued that the 19% SC pulley is easy on belts, due to the smaller radius turn. Also, from what I've read here, it is arguable that the belt should be checked regularly no matter what pulleys you are running.

Do you have to splice in some sort of FCD to keep the SES light from coming on??

Not to start another war......but we won't know if a non-dampened pulley will harm the MINI until we start seeing people with 50,000 miles on the engine. The short term effect is probably nill, but who knows what the long term one is. There is data from different engine manufacturers that will confirm or deny that any damage will occur. I trust the MINI engineers to determine what is a safe design for the long term.

just fitted one to my GP it goes a lot better, and i fitted cold plugs just to be safe, then i fitted a GTT works replacment air fillter. i am thinking of fitting a v2 alta intercooler in the next few weeks. then a re map mth. if you fit it yourself you will need a puller. and you need to use a extra strong bearing seat locktight, green or blue. good luck

Agreed. But as far as MINI engineers go.. Ah, who knows with that lot.

I will wait for long-term results before doing the crank pulley however..

Thanks for the help guys.

I would love to hear from someone who has 50K with a lightened crank pulley but I don't know if I will. I plan on keeping my car for years. I love everything about my car and plan some day putting a new engine in it. I just would rather not do it at 75K.

I have a 15% SC pulley and was thinking of going with a 3% crank pulley. I like the idea of an 18% total combo rather then a 19% SC pulley. I'm looking at building as much torque as possible. My car is a street car. I'm looking to add more torque lower in the rev range. To me torque rules over hp.

I might add a Head but one that gives torque. Come January I'm back on the mod train with 3K to play with. Figuring out what to do is driving me crazy.

I did a 2% today, total of 19% and I love it. Another great mod.

VERY SWEET to know. I was looking at doing this at home, but it seems inaccessible without lifting the engine all the way out...

Need to revisit with removed fender liner.
