I wonder how...the R56 intro will affect the #1 and #2 for next year...hmm.
Probably not as much as some are predicting. Values of the first generation of MINIs will not "drop like a rock." There may be a slight drop but remember, once the R56 is released there will still be plenty of people who will not be able to afford a new MINI and thus demand for used MINIs will remain high. Huge drops in value upon introduction of a new model are typical of some manufacturers but most premium brands such as BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, Acura, etc, see little drop off. I would put the MINI in that category. The older MINIs may not get as much on the used market as they used to, but it will still be a very low depreciation rate.
I agree that the R53's shouldn't take a big hit. Simple supply and demand dictates that they should remain pretty desirable
Don't hate me, but I hope they DO take a drop... I'm not planning on giving up my cabrio after it's paid off, and I want a second MINI (a hard top) one day and was planning on buying one "gently used".
Ha! I think I can forgive you I'll probably be keeping mine for a while too!

Sorry, but there is no way MINI is in the same category as Lexus, Mercedes, etc. Not even close. Its low end marque aimed at early twenties (via marketing, not by who buys ... Scion is also marketed at young ppl and Toyota hates the fact that middle-aged ppl buy Scions knowing they are Toyotas and not buying the Toyota brand ...). Cars are clearing aimed at the price point below the average prices of a car sold in the US. No point in discussing quality issues.

You're right about that - Mercedes doesn't even need a new model introduction for their used-car prices to drop like a stone, especially on their high-end models.
I love that according to this article "I am in a cult".....the I love my Mini and I made a smart buy cult! I loved this Consumer Report article and sent a copy to my ex. We have been debating about how "smart" my Mini purchase was. So what if reliability was only rated as average, Minis have a high resale value. I have no plans to sell my Mini anytime soon, I love this car! Just nice to know I made a very smart buying decision with this car!
