I have a friend who is getting a BRG/W mini and wants to put on a checkered roof on as soon as she gets it. Who out there has gotten the copper flags decal and who go the factory mini decal? There is a big jump in price and I want to give her the best info before she buys one. I have heard some things about the mini decal that would sway me the other way, but I want to know who has what, and why they went that way. Has anyone had problems with the mini decal? She also want the checkers to go all the way out to the edge, do they do that for both decals? Thanks for the help. This board is a great help with so many things!

Hi! There is no one else that I would deal with except http://www.cooperflags.com They stand behind their product, sell only 3M materials and offer a terrific support service. I ordered a checker sunroof flag from them and would not consider ordering from anyone else. I'm very pleased with this company, their product, and service.

NoBull60: I do agree that we should support our sponsors, but chad has the right to know which is a superior product. Blindly buying from sponsors isn't being an intelligent consumer. Chad's friend was already looking at cooperflags if you reread the post, and trying to intimidate him isn't going to help anybody - it's not his duty to tell his friend to buy from them

thanks RCristiano. i do want to suport them. but there is like a 130 dollar difference between the decals and she is a full time collage student and i know everyone knows that money is short while doing that. she said she would spend the money if in the long run they are the best. but i have to tell her why. and the other roof is sold by mini so i am buying a "offical mini product". i am sure someone out there had a mini roof and changed to a cooper flag roof. i just want to know why they did. thanks again.

I have the dealer decal with dealer install and I have loved it. comments/ observations:
The material of the decal is quite thick (I'd say almost 1- 2 mm).
It doesn't go all the way to the rain gutters (~3 -6 cm space) and I do not know if the Cooper Flag ones does or not
because it is a lot of little pieces rather than one big one I expect that the installation is harder to get right than one of the flags (spend the money, have a pro do it  )
I have only seen checkers on BRG. Red and Black. The best is BRG [and I unbiased ]
Roof graphics in general contribute tremendously to the "classic look" MINI and to the unique nature of MINI's and each individual MINI (I have yet to see any two exactly alike)

OK -I'm back. After a busy week and weekend, hopefully I can help answer some questions here.

1) The checks used by BMW/MINI today are single color squares of cut vinyl. The checks are applied in stripes with each one adhering to the roof individually. What this allows for is each edge of each square is acceptable to peeling.

2) The checkerboard from Cooper Flags is a solid sheet 3M Graphic where the colors are digitally printed on the material. This allows for any number of color combinations regardless of roof color. For example a black roof MINI could have a yellow & white checkerboard. This would be near impossible with the cut vinyl
Here is a picture of a solid graphic going over a white roof with an existing factory Union Jack. (our local installer Ed)

In addition the Cooper Flag has a clear coat laminate with prevents fading and protects against UV rays. The warranty from 3M is 3 years in most cases. Having the graphic in one solid piece also allows for less chance of peeling.

In addition to the traditional checkerboard pattern we have a cool 3D version. This could never be done with traditional cut vinyl.

Here is a picture looking out of a sunroof with a graphic installed. You see nothing of the graphic from inside and it works as an additional layer of tint on the window. The perforated sections over the sunroof can cut heat inside the car up to 40% over the standard tint on the sunroof itself.

I hope all this helps – and let me know if I can answer anything else.

I have a checked roof decal on my PW/Bl Cooper with sunroof. I went with solid white checks for consistent exterior appearance and have no objection to seeing the checks when the window is closed. I got the decal from Idle Gear in the UK (http://idlegear.co.uk/) and they sell them for about GBP 50 (about $80). Good 5/7 yr vinyl (UV rating), individual squares. You can get the kit to the edge of the roof or not, if you wish. I installed myself (allow lots of time). Photos are on this site members area.

I have to say, Everything I've seen from Cooperflags has looked... GREAT!

I have seen the others... neato, but I have yet to hear if they use ScotchPrint.

A question for Matt...

How about 3-M Scotchbrite viper stripes? is this possible or is it too thick for a good application? can you print on Scotchbrite?

I'm days closer to a Stripe Decisions BTW....

When will the Jolly Roger be available?

Thanks
-Doug

Doug - the Pirate Flag is available for order today. We have it in the system and ready to print.

We can do our version of the Viper/Cobra stripe in the 3M material, but I have not used the Scotchbrite - I'll check with my guys in the morning and see what they say about this material.

is more skull and cross bones than pirate - but it's still cool.

Designs by Mighty Minz, produced by Cooper Flags.
