Service Engine Soon Light on.....then off

Anyone else had this happen? The SES light went on on Friday afternoon and stayed on as I used the car this weekend. This morning, I start the car and the SES light is off. Is it worth a trip to the dealer? Or can I wait until I take it in for an interim oil change in about 2 months? The car has 19K miles. Thanks!

Same thing happened to my car. I took it to the dealership since a fault code might be still in the car's memory. Sure enough, one of the O2 sensor was replaced. I was in and out in less than an hour.

I think it took longer to wash the car than to have the sensor replaced.

I think the SES light is programmed to go off after about 5 times of starting the car. (I had the o2 sensor issue to, and it came on and off a few times before I got it replaced). A code should be stored in the computer. If you can't get to MINI soon, stop by an autozone and they will come out and read the code for you for free.

Your service is first 10k miles then every 15k after that or 1 year. If its showing up before either of those parameters have it reset, should be quick.

Thanks for the replys...
I took it into Lauderdale MINI today during my lunch break and they found a problem with the gas cap seal...They simply replaced the gas cap. As a bonus, I got my fluids topped off, air in the tires checked, and a washed MINI! Kudos again to Scott and Mark....

I don't think he is referring to the Maintanence light. There is a "Service Engine Soon" light which means there is something wrong with the car, not to go and get maintanence service.

SES light

I had the same issue this week also. The Mini SA told me to check the gas cap and oil filler cap for tightness- they should click when properly fitted. Sure enough the oil cap had come loose. One quarter turn and a click solved the problem. The SA also told me it would take a couple of days to clear the fault from the computer and she was right.
