Wind Shield Cracks: what are my options?

Hey guys.

io not too long a go, when I was driving over the alex fraiser bridge, in the far left lane, with a fair distance between myself and the car infront of me, i hear a loud sharp cracking noise. i scan my windshield and i find a nice 1 inch crack on the lower half of my windshield on the passengerside.

when i had time to stop and inspect the car from the outside, i notices a pit mark at the center of the crack, indicating that it was caused by a rock.

so what are my options? i know that the windows had flaws in them, being that they're intriniscally too weak. but would this be covered under warrenty? and when i do replace it, be it under warrenty/not, i should order the PPM windshields?

anyway, thanks in advance.

Get used to it. I'm on my 3rd windshield. The last time I broke a windshield, somebody had dropped a load of gravel on the Alex Fraser bridge.

With all the construction happening on the highways and roads in he Vancouver area, we're going to continue to break a few windshields.

Also, I notice that my speed over the AF bridge is usually a wee bit high in comparison to other cars around me. It's just difficult to drive our cars slow. Slowing down a bit may not lessen the chances of rocks hitting your cars, but lowers the chances of the window actually breaking.

Sorry, not much help here.

I, too,am on windshield #3. I replaced one and it was broken again within 3 weeks. Arghh. Despite what would appear to be a weak windshield (actually something to do with glass angle), the crack was caused by a rock. ICBC will have to be involved. There is a deductible. If you have replacement value on the car ICBC has to put in an OEM with the proper tinting for the deductible.

I have all my glass work done at Speedy Glass at 200th and Fraser Highway in Langley. My neighbour Dave is the manager and he treats me very well. The only problem I had was that MINI Richmond didn't have any windshields in stock and I waited a few weeks for the windshield to arrive. By going to Speedy and having them order the windshield from MINI Richmond, I spread the wealth. Dave has told me that, even after I am out of replacement value insurance, he can get me the OEM at a good price. Give him a call if you aren't too far away. Tell him Kathy sent you. Hope this helps.
