2nd pop out

Hi

Anyone ever have this problem? At times, I'll be shifting into 2nd and the shifter seems to pop back into neutral. Seems to happen more when going from 3rd than from 1st. Could be PIBSS..problem is between seat and steering wheel.

I've got about 3500 miles and this has only happened about 6 times so I'm not convinced it's a real problem yet. Not sure if my syncro is bad or if this kind of thing is normal. Any advice is welcomed

Happened pretty regularly from 5th on my last car(Non-MINI), I just put it back in gear and kept on going.

I find the MINI tranny to be pretty notchy at times, I did a pop-out on one of my first MINI test drives with a sales guy in the car it was a little embarrassing but he said it's "normal" for folks not used to the way MINI's feel. I haven't had this happen with my own car yet but I do find it takes a good shove to get it into gear sometimes. Funny I drive an '03 MC a number of times and found the 5 speed to be rather "normal". The '06 MCS on the other hand is a different animal.

The gate for second is a little notchy. Every once and a while I will hit the gate around 2nd and start to let off the clutch which then the syncros force the shifter back to neutral. Although usually it is when I am going from 1st to 2nd quickly.

Popping out after completely engaged? That sounds like a syncro. But if you aren't used to the notchiness of 2nd (as previous posts have mentioned) then it could be you are not fully engaging the gear. This is my hunch, since you only experience it downshifting, where you might be using less force on the shifter, and the revs of the motor/tranny are greater. I'd say go out of your way to put some force behind it for awhile to see if the problem goes away. Just my 2 cents.

Happens to me sometimes, in first and reverse. I think I might not be pushing it all the way into the fork though.

Thanks for the feeback. I've been employing the open palm technique when shifting so I'll throw a little more oomph into it. For the record, it's never fully engaged in 2nd gear when it pops out. Seems as if it's going in but then pops back to N. Again, thanks for the tips.
