R50/53 Banging Rear Hatch MCS
Banging Rear Hatch MCS
Well I know this topic has been brought up before about all the rattles and banging. So I thought I would post up a solution for one of the rattles on the hatch.
I have a 2003 MCS and was having alot of what sounded like metal to metal banging when going over uneven surfaces. I thought at first I had a loose shock or sway bar, but ruled that out after checking all the connections. I looked around the rear hatch for anything that maybe loose for a possible culprit but came up short. I then noticed that the loop that keeps the rear hatch closed was metal and the locking mechanizm was also metal. I wrapped the metal loop in some rubber tubing I had siting around and wha la the banging is gone and the cooper is none rattling again.
hope that helps anyone that may have the banging in the rear hatch. I can take a picture of the fix if it would help anyone recreate it.
