Quick Question

Is there a specific designation for the cabrio, R**. Maybe R54? And also, when was it first produced?

Thanks

My Cooper Cabrio shows to be R52, not sure for the Cooper S Cabrio. The Cabrios came out in the 2005 model year, so production began during the last half of 2004(just a guess).

I found the designation at www.realoem.com (BMW website for OEM part numbers). You enter the last 7 digits of your VIN, and it will give build date, etc for your car. (Be sure to capitalize any letters)

Hope this helps.

The first gen cabrios are ALL R52 (both MCC and MCSC). The first gen MC is R50 and the first gen MCS is R53.

I'm not sure what they will be doing for the codes in the next gen convertibles, although I know they are using R56 for the hardtops.
