Falken Ziex 512 vs Dunlop SP Sport A2+

Looking to replace my OEM Conti's on the 15 Holies with a bit wider tire and looking at these 2 choices in the $40-$60 range.

Going to go with 195/60 . Was looking at 205/55 but looking at some pics from other cars, they look too donut like on holies.

I need All Season traction ...

currently the Falken's are $41 at Edge Racing and the Dunlops at $57 + some rebate at Tire Rack.

Pro's and cons of each if you have some experience with them ... what else should I look at?

205 is a bit wide for a hollie. i know people have done it but its still a lil odd. 195 is a lot of grip. a MCS comes with 195 tires and they grip really well.

I love hollies i wish i could get a set and put some snow tires on them for lots of fun in winter. I also think they look great.

He might be a fan of falken if he could sell them...

something to consider...

the potenza's are great tires though. I dont think you can go wrong with them.

ALl of these companies have crap tires in the crap range. Their upper level performance tires are something completely different

think of VW vs. porche

I like ASX's handleing better than Sport A2+ - but its treadware is 30k average.

I just grabbed a set of Falken Ziex 512's. At this point I have only covered about 300 miles, so its a little early to be definitive on my opinion, but they appear to be very good. I am coming off Bridgestone RF's though rather than Dunlops and also using 17's.

Observations

1) They grip really nicely when leaving the line - much less drama than the Bridgestones - on my test 'exit stage right' junction, they did not even chirp - simply gripped and launched me up the road Under braking they feel very stable too.

2) They are a little noisy - on the freeway they are a little noisier than the RF's over certain surfaces, but they are maybe slightly quieter over others - I guess that I am so used to the commute that I recognise where I am by sound at times.

3) Steering 'feel' is way improved, vastly, infinitely better than stock. I can feel the road surface.

4) Turn-in - vast improvement. No Scratch that, massive improvement. Really amazingly crisp compared to the RF's.

5) Ride Comfort is a major improvement over the RF's

Cosmetically they are a very different design to the RF's - the sidewalls are somewhat rounded and have a rim protector - very similar to to the Dunlop DZ's that I have on my Spyder, the tread looks 'good' but aesthetics are not really high on my tire agenda. They are certainly not an aggressive looking tire.

I am very impressed so far but ask me again in a few thousand miles for a definitive opinion.......
