Toyo Proxes T1R, anyone?

Does anyone have any experience with the Toyo T1R, I am trying to compare them to the BFgoodrich Gforce KDW2. I would love to hear if anyone has any experience with the Toyo tire so that I can make a decision.
Thanks

i have them, so far so good, cornering traction seems good, good in the rain. i do need to rotate them though, all the hard turns really wears down the outside edge of the front tires.

I had the T1S on last year for several HPDE, AutoX, and a Dragon. I put the T1R on this spring. I haven't been to the track this year, but I put two trips to the Dragon on them so far. I am very happy with the T1R and I think it has a stronger sidewalls that help prevent roll over in hard corners. Tread life has been decent and they have not gotten noisey from what I have noticed as they aged. BTW, I bought both sets from Edge Racing. Good guys.

I used a set of shaved 205/40ZR17 Toyo RA-1 at Buttonwillow Raceway in last years East Coast Vs. West Coast Mini Cooper Challenge. They worked GREAT, I won!

My Cooper rolls on 16" X-lites shod with Toyo T1R in 195/50R16 size.
Put them on in April and have been very happy with their performance dry and wet.
They are also available in stock 195/55R16 and the popular 205/50R16.
I didn't want to go wider than 195 and wanted a little smaller O.D. than the stock runflat size.
Also matched more closely to my winter 185/60R15 O.D., so the speedo error is at least consistent all year.
Highly recommended.
Did I mention they are very light? Or that I like them?

I've had 195/55-15 Toyo T1-R's on stock 15" holey wheels since the week after I got my MC over a year ago (go back to stock all-seasons for winter). I've been very happy with them, I've autocrossed in the dry once and in the rain twice with them. Not nearly as much dry grip as a stickier tire like the Falken Azenis, but I am usually on Kumho 710's for race use. They are one of the lightest summer high performance tires available, and have plenty of grip for the street for me. I'll probably be getting a set for my Miata next year, in fact, my Mini wheels and Toyo tires are on the Miata right now, I thought I'd give them a try since the bolt pattern is the same.

Keith, I have a '93 Miata and just got a 2006 MCS. It would be nice having the option of swapping tires between the two cars, but isn't the offset different? Even though the bolt pattern is the same, the Miata is RWD and the MCS is FWD. Doesn't this matter?

Thanks!
Steve

I had the T1Rs on my 2003 MCS. Was not impressed with their wet grip and braking - dry grip was average.

Toyo Tires are superb tires...

I sell Toyo Tires, and the T1R is probably one of the best tires on the market. It replaced the T1S in the Toyo lineup and if you know anything about the T1S, it was an awarding winning tire for years and years. Toyo never replaced the T1S because it performed so well on numerous vehicles, and due to the fact that it sold so well in the Domestic & International markets. With the new T1R out, replacing the T1S I feel that I can say that this tire not only out-performs its predecessor, but will hold up in just about any condition that the MINI can throw at it (except for snow that is)!

Its a pretty good tire. Note that the Toyo T1S and T1R are a bit soft in the side wall area compared to some other high performance tires so they don't have that nice crisp turn in that other tires have.

I prefer the Kumho MX over the Toyo for that reason. The Toyo probably has a nicer ride, but I think the turn in and feedback at the limit is a bit more direct that with the Toyo.

I've never driven the Bridgestone you mentioned. Might want to check the BMW forums too for some feedback on tires.

Actually the offset is nearly identical, 40-45mm offset give or take a couple of mm. If you are talking about stock wheels for both, the hub bore is slighty smaller on the Miata IIRC, so stock Miata wheels might not fit on a Mini, but stock Mini wheels fot on a Miata just fine. Many Hondas, 4-lug VW's, and most Saturns all use the same 4x100 bolt pattern that the Mini and Miata use, and the offsets are all about the same too.
