MINIs Great Lakes Crossing ~ September 29- October 1, 2006
A special weekend event to support for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Description of Event:
This event is a scenic tour of Lake Michigan, with special stops on route. This is fall in northern Wisconsin, Michigan Upper and Northern Lower Peninsula and the fall colors that should be spectacular at this time of year.
The tour will depart from Motor City MINI in Shelby Township (a suburb of Metropolitan Detroit) on Thursday September 28th. The caravan will motor to Muskegon, Michigan, gathering more MINIacs in Lansing and Grand Rapids on the way. Once in Muskegon we hope to be joined by West Coast Michigan MINIacs as well as MINIacs from neighboring states, for a meet and greet dinner.
The official 1st day of this event will be Friday September 29th. Friday morning after breakfast the group will head to the Lake Express for the 10:15 am ferry crossing to Milwaukee. (We have reserved the crossing for MINIs and Minis only, and it has a capacity of 50 cars). THERE ARE STILL 19 SPOTS OPEN THAT WE WOULD REALLY LIKE TO FILL!!!
After a 2 hour boat ride, with raffles, games and welcome speeches, a welcome lunch is planned at International MINI in Milwaukee. The cruise will then continue along the coastline through Sturgeon Bay, ending in Green Bay, WI.
On Saturday morning, the cruise will make a short stop at Lambeau Field, before continuing the tour along the Wisconsin coast into Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Saturday’s evening stop will be in the vicinity of the Mackinaw Bridge.
Sunday morning we would like to all meet near Mackinaw Bridge for group and individual photos then we have a short drive planned with some great curvy roads with lots of great places to take photos. Then depending upon the driver & passenger’s individual plans, several routes for Sunday are available from making an express trip back to South East Michigan & Ohio via I-75, or a relaxing cruise along the East coast of Lake Michigan. Or even an extra night’s stop in Traverse City.

The cost of the Lake Express is as follows:
$50 per car
$45 per person over 17 years.
$25 per person between 5 – 17 years.
Children under the age of 5 go free.
Michigan MINI Motor Club has decided to make this event a charity event. The charity that has been selected by the organization committee is the Make-A-Wish Foundation.We are asking each participant to assist is raising money via sponsorship for the charity. Any and all donations are welcome even if you are not going! Just contact Detroit Tuned and we would happy to work with you. We will be donating our raised funds to Make-A-Wish Michigan.
