license plate light disassembly

Greetings all,

I didn't think it would be too hard but SPOON has outsmarted me. I want to put on an led license plate frame but I can't seem to take apart the rear license plate light assembly.

I take out the 4 screws that seem to hold the whole assembly on there but I'm afraid to yank on it too hard because I don't want to break anything hehe.

I've taken out all the screws for the lower plastic assembly on the door of the boot as well but it seems to have these funky clips that hold it to the door. Again I don't want to yank on that or fiddle around with them too much with a screwdriver because I'll probably break it. Does anyone know how those clips work? Does anyone know how to get to the wiring for the rear license plate light? Either or both would be greatly appreciated since I'd like to get this done before MITM.

I've searched the other forums for about an hour already trying to find some clue but I couldn't find anything. I've also posted something like this in another forum but figure I'd try here since jsouz always trolls this forum hehe.

Thanks for any help that can be given.

Nth

Maybe it strike up an idea. Not quite sure how to do it myself but I'm sure someone at MITM will probably know.

Anyone that has a Bentley MAnual should be able to check for you.

The housing, also known as the hatch handle, is also attached by self adhesive foam seal...just carefully pull it off and remove the residue...it is not meant to be reinstalled as you will have permanently damaged the seal so you'll need to buy another unit or custom fab a seal...these "hatch handles" are sold only as a complete assembly with body color cover, lights, seal, hatch switch...

The foam thing behind the handle wasn't self adhesive. Maybe mine was just weird. It seemed like it was just stuck there because the handle was screwed on real tight. I didn't have to get a new handle assembly or foam stuff. You just have to make sure that you screw the handle on tight so water doesn't get on the wiring.

I never did put the license plate cover on either. I didn't want to screw anything up inside with the wiring and some people mentioned some laws that might not like the fact that the cover might distract other drivers. Oh well, c'est la vie. I'll figure out other ways to do this.

Sorry I didn't reply with a solution or what I found out. Got caught up in MITM and haven't been back here to update anything since.

You're right...it's only attached to the handle assembly...
