oil catch can a must?
With a little help from others that have done it, I just cleaned my intercooler at 55k miles. It was a quick and easy job. Had I known how easy it was, I would have done it several times in the past few years.
My opinion is that most of the oil that gets caught in the can would have blown right through the intercooler anyway and even with a can, some oil vapor will still end up inside the intercooler. So you'll still want to clean the intercooler from time to time.
so I wouldn't bother with one, but lots of other people seem to swear by them.

It is kind of a split decision...
If you were to do a poll of NAM members, I doubt that you would see even a 25% implementation level of members who have modified their cars. It is not like the intercooler is getting soaked with oil fumes and its efficiency is tanking. My personal opinion is that catch cans are a feel-good item - they make the owner feel good. You won't see better gas mileage after adding the catch can; and you won't see better engine output after adding the catch can.
