ecu remap anybody
ecu remap anybody
i'm looking to get my ecu remapped. i was wondering if anybody here has gotten it done in the states, where, and how much? i am trying to avoid taking it out and overnight shipping it somewhere. also , is it a good upgrade.any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks. oh yeah. i'm talking about a non s. i know how you s guys like to chime in
When I talked to Pete at www.myminiparts.com a few months ago he said they were going to start offering ECU upgrades. He's great to talk to and can help you out with this. Let us know what he says.
IMO your best bet is going to be the MTH. I have an Apex SAFC2, and it actually robbed me of 3 peak whp. It helped out in the mid-range a little, but ultimately not worth it. If you have modded your car, or have any plans to mod your car, I would definately recommend MTH. I was looking at switching finally here this summer. Shipping your ECU somewhere is expensive and time consuming. Sending the files to MTH is a much more effecient way of doing the same thing. The plug and play tunes are not going to do much. Also, there are plenty of people on here with dyno numbers to prove that it works. My car dyno'd 151 before tuning and 148.5 after. With the numbers i've seen from MTH, I'm anxious to see what kind of gains are to still be had. They claim a 20hp gain from their tuner file. So hypothetically, intake + exhaust + mth = cooper s power range...all for under a grand if you do it right.
Check out the Bluefin system from Lohen in Europe. They offer a hand held unit that plugs into your car and remaps it and saves the oem settings so you can switch back if needed. No laptops involved no sending files etc. They customize the program to fit your mods.

no usb port cables for the car , i'd have to borrow a notebook from somebody , also the whole procedure is kind of new territory for me. it seems alittle confusing with that program and all.
i'll see what happens when they email back. thanks for all your help guys, this will probably be one of the last performance mods i do to the car. yeah right.
i'm trying to get in touch with someone right now from mth , but it's like pulling teeth.i emailed and called one of the local dealers around me , so we will see what happens . i'm shooting for the tuning package . hopefully this will all work out in the end. i'll keep you guys posted
Hi again ineedspeed,
I didn't do the MTH install myself. Fairly computer literate, but didn't want to mess with the cable/notebook/download/upload, etc!!
A member of our local MINI club (okmini.com) is a MTH rep and he did all of the install. I took the easy way
I would think that someone in your area would also be a rep!!
I had a base line dyno, of my mostly stock 2002 MC (flat panel filter), a couple of years ago. I'm not sure where I've put the chart but the result was around 103/104 HP at the rear wheel. Drive line loss usually runs 10 to 15% on most cars. The BHP for a MC is 115 HP.
Thus (115)(.10) = 11.5
115 - 11.5 = 103.5 HP, or around 10% loss
When, or if, I can get the extra $$ rounded up another run is planned.
Best thing about doing a dyno run is getting the base line done. Then you can compare (on the same dyno) what exactly your mods do. And, sometime the money outlay results in less horsepower, or the power curve not what you want for your driving needs !!!!!!!!!!!!
