Don't buy Rocky Mountian Radar Detectors! Just my advice.

Ok I have a lead foot and I know it so I brought this Radar Detector/Jammer from Rocky Mountain Radar. Well on the box it tells that if you get a ticket with this Detector installed, they will pay you for the ticket.
Guess what they didn't pay for the ticket. They said that it was 30% over the posted speed limit and would be cover. 30% of 70 is 91. I was going 93. There is not any where on their website that tells that rule or on the box before you open it.

Anyway they don't really stand behind their product.
O and it don't work.

So if you are looking for a Radar Detector don't get the Rocky Mountain Radar products.

Hey if anyone knows of a better Detector/Jammer please let me know.

V1, IB4TL, shouldn't have been speeding in the first place, this is a warning I've heard on NAM before, the radar detector is their to keep you from getting a ticket from a mild slip of the foot, not for outright speeding, no product will give you a lisence to speed so to speak, that only happens on the track. Use any detector properly and regularly, some are better than other hence the V1 reccomendation, and you can prevent most tickets, never had a radar based ticket with a $120 Cobra detector in three years and LOTS of use, they are devices that generally pay for them selves but do give you an excuse to speed.

I figured it was Excessive enough for Rocky Mountain not to pay it....

Besides most stuff over 15 is usually locked down in a hurry.

Nope, and besides "Jammers" are illegal in almost every state if not all.

OK, I think I have to lock this thread, as suggested above... due to rule 5 of the NAM Site Guidelines. However, before I do, a couple of last minute quick bits of advice on detectors & jammers, from someone who has read a lot on the subject.
  1. Passive radar jammers, like the ones that Rocky Mountain sells, don't work. Even so, their products are being considered for a ban by authorities. I read something about that very recently.
  2. Active radar jammers work, but they are illegal everywhere (by the FCC).
  3. A good quality radar detector is very much worth having, provided you are using it in a location that is legal. Even if you try to drive at the limit (or close to it), being aware of police presence is never a bad thing, in case you're not paying attention to your speedometer.
  4. Laser detectors are almost worthless, because when it goes off, you are already zapped. A good laser jammer can give you a valuable few extra seconds to slow down though (usually about 5 seconds). Since laser jammers emit light and not radio frequencies, they are not subject to the same FCC laws as radar jammers. Different jurisdictions may have specific laws against laser jammers though, so check your local state laws.
As for a radar detector, I personally will give a strong recommendation to the Valentine One, since it is at the top of the list from a technical standpoint, and has a few unique patented features the others don't (most especially the directional arrows). However, it is also the most expensive (or one of them)... but if it saves you just ONE headache, it's worth it... and it will save you, provided you pay attention to it. There are other good products now that have caught up to the V1 and are a little bit cheaper (e.g. $300 instead of $400), but they won't have the directional arrows (which are fantastic), and they won't have an upgrade program to get technology upgrades without paying for a whole new detector.

On the laser jammer, I have used and had good experiences with both the Lidatek LaserECHO and the K40 Laser Defuser. I've had both installed on my previous vehicle at different times, and both saved me from laser tickets.

Please note that although I live in VA now, which bans both radar detectors and laser jammers, I used to live in MD.

With that said, I hereby lock the thread. Next time you want to discuss legal technologies (in most jurisdictions), please don't discuss highly excessive and illegal speeds as well.
